I've had Dupetrine's contracture in my right hand for a number of years. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't affect my playing or any other activities. I went to a hand specialist about four years ago and he said that it wasn't to the point yet that he could do anything about it. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse so I'm just living with it. No biggie. I recently read that they now have a nonsurgical method of treating it with injections.

Well...I have been putting off revealing the results of my visit with the hand specialist. It is Dupetrine's contracture. The very beginning stages. I have the nodule that causes the tendon to contract. It is a 50/50 chance of it being acute in the future.

I am freaked out a little, mostly because it is a debilitating disease of the hand. But, right now I am okay. Nothing or everything might happen. So I am going to just protect my palm and keep a close watch on it. It sucks getting older....oh, and it's hereditary. Thanks to my ancestors....blah.

Hi gang. Sorry I have been off the boards a while. I have had a tremendous time dealing with family and my job etc. Life is what happens when your busy making plans....

Well, I sort of have the family thing sorted out and I have a new job. The band is still plugging away and then... I have a ganglion cyst in the palm of my left hand. I can still work and drum with it albeit a modified grip.

I go see a hand specialist in Feb as a consult to see if I need surgery or not. Any of you guys ever had one if these critters? It only hurts if I smash it or clap my hands. If I ignore it, I could develop Dupetrine's contracture (hammer finger) so, I am not going to risk it getting worse or impede my drumming.

Send me some good juju that it will be an easy fix. ☮

I had one on my wrist years ago about the size of 1/2 golf ball. Surgery was scheduled. I woke up the morning of surgery and it was gone. I went to the hospital and showed the DR. He said ITS A MIRACLE. Now go to church and put something in the envelope!!! You owe him!

Good luck, bro! It may be a "simple fix" as noted - they can remove the fluid via needle or incision. I had a growth on my pinky many years back - it was cut off in an in-office procedure, and it went away forever - maybe 20 years now.

I also had R. wrist surgery for torn ligaments after a car Ax. Mostly resolved but once in a while still hurts - it's been 9 years. Went to the top hand surgeon at Stanford for it and also consulted with UCSF - the 49'ers doctors. Doesn't affect my drumming/guitar/bass/golf!!!

The most important thing is getting care sooner rather than later, and having a very good doctor and if you can afford it, getting a 2nd opinion! JUJU 2U!!!
