I have never had so many pairs. Paiste 2k2 Wild, a lone 404 medium bottom, Colorsound Heavy; coming soon is a pair of 602 se and a Rude bottom. My hat palette has never been this broad. Will I use them all? Will I shed a few?

How many pairs of hats do you lot own?

What music determines the hats you use?

14" Zildjian New Beats ('70s hollow logo)
14" Bosphorus New Orleans
16" K Zildjian Dark Thin Crash (top)/ Bosphorus New Orleans crash (bottom)

The 16" hats get the most playing time lately.

Still busy exploring the intricacies of my new Zildjian Custom Mastersound 15"-ers, and loving it! I'm in one band, and we do lots of swing, so the crispness of these hats are perfect for dotted-eighth-note passages and accents, and the wide range of sounds I get when partially open covers the blues stuff really well.

Ringo - So, what hats are you being paid NOT to play?

I'm on a hat binge right now.

January:

- 14" 2002 Sound Edge Hats
- 14" K Hats

Now:

- 14" 2002 Sound Edge Hats
- 14" 404 Medium Hats
- 15" small stamps As (950/1050)
- 16" K Light Hats
- 14" P.O.S. MX-100 hats that are more rust than brass. But I like the way they sound!

I'll probably wind up ditching the 16" K Lights, though, in favor of maybe a 16" 2002 Medium over top a 2002 Power Crash.

Jeez, man ... *all* of them? LOL! Can't do it. Prolly have 15 or 20 pairs -- some factory-matched, most me-matched.

I can tell you what I use most frequently.

14" trans stamp cracked top (646g) over 14" Masterwork (who are they?) Crash bottom (673g).

14" new stamp old K that I inherited from Gadd (795g) over 14" Paiste Sound Creation Dark Medium bottom (1225g). ~New Beat weight ratio~

15" first stamps (769g over 810g). ~jazzy~

16" Paiste pre-serial 602s (1169g over 1303g). These were Gottlieb's ... he must not have liked 'em 'cause he sold 'em.

P.S. They all work

P.P.S. There's nothing I couldn't play with a pair of 14" 602 hats.

P.P.P.S. There's nothing I couldn't play with a set of 602 14" hats, 18" crash, and 20" ride.

3 for me
14" Paiste Sig Power - I got these over 20 years ago. Does that make them vintage?
14" hollow logo New Beats
The last pair is made by Zildjian, 14" but I don't know the model. I got them used. The top is lighter than the bottom and based on the previous owners other items I would date them from 60's.

Had 15"-ers, liked them fine, but wanted to get my Concrete Snare.

Some of you lot have a fair few, some of you buy hats in moderation. I guess what I have found is part of my hat addiction is necessary- one pair is in a rehearsal/recording space. But having a wider palette is good. Just like having multiple snares.

Keep the answers coming!!!!
