All I know is after playing coated Ambassadors for nearly 40 years, switching to UV1's has been a very good reason to like Evans no matter the logo. Incredible product.

The there that’s supposedly there is not there.
Looking at a screenshot I took from a 2012 issue of Modern Drummer compared to the logo currently on the Evans website, the actual lettering for the word "Evans" hasn't really changed much. The kerning has just been applied more consistently, and the letters have a little more internal space.
They did change the "E" slightly (3rd leg is longer now), but the general wordmark is the same.
And that logo goes back significantly longer than that -- this picture is from 2001:
