How clean should a shell be for wrapping?

I will likely get my shell to bare wood, but I am curious as to how clean of old paint, etc., in order to get a good bond using traditional wrap securing methods?

I have a funny feeling this shell isn’t clean enough…

I've sent shells with dried glue to Precision and they've come back wrapped perfectly with no additional charges so I assume it was fine.

Those don't look bad at all. Paint is easy to remove. I'd be more worried about old glue as it could add texture.

your biggest concern will be if the new glue pulls away the old paint... then you'll have an air gap, which will only spread

might not be fatal, but you're only about 5 minutes away from "better"
