If you showed up to any major artist's first rehearsal with an obvious drug addiction you'd very likely be shown the door.
The sideman/woman scene is incredibly competitive. With millions of dollars at stake, sold out stadium tours etc, no one needs to employ a liability.
Out of control drug or alcohol abuse is very rare amongst freelance musicians. You just wouldn't work.
An artist or band will carry a founding member through addiction, like Keith Moon, or Keith Richards, but they won't a hired gun.

Ag, I'm not calling your friend a "liar", but.....I know lots of the biggest country drummers and none are making $500k a year touring....did you mean $500/show???

Hey Trey!! Hope you're doing great man!

I swear he told me $5k/show. I thought it was a bit high, but maybe after taxes and expenses, it ends up being a more reasonable number. What salaries are you seeing on your end?
