Hi! I’m trying to identify the year and eventually price on my Ludwig 14x6.5 Super Sensitive Green/Oliver Badge, with serial number 1696710.
I haven’t had any luck yet. Anyone knows the details about this drum, or how to figure them out?
Thanks! :)

The serial number is just that, a number. There's no information encoded within. A drum with a lower number on the badge is PROBABLY older and one with a higher number is likely newer. One can extrapolate the number to get a sense of about when a drum was made but beyond that the number isn't too helpful. Find a copy of Rick Gier's Ludwig serial number book for more info.

I'd guess late 70's/early 80's. Like KO said, get the serial number guide booklet. My copy is not at hand, that's why I'm guessing.
The badge is known as the blue and olive badge (B+O).
As for value, my guesstimate is 500-700 dollars. Could be more?

Your serial number points to the 1978 +/_ time period. Note that this is an estimate. I explain how a reach that time frame in my guide.

All attributes of a drum should be considered when establishing a date. Anyone interested in Ludwig (or serial number dating) should get the guide.

The Rick Gier book is definitely helpful, and several folks around these parts contributed. I feel like it is worth much more than the retail price. I believe it might be the most up to date info available in published form?

Thanks. Anyone who wants to pay extra is invited to do so. ;)
