If you're thinking of ordering a Sonor SQ2 kit, or even an add on drum, you might want to call you're friendly Sonor dealer as the prices being shown for US customers, in USD are 11.4% lower this week than they were last week. Don't ask me why because I don't know why. You can thank me later.

I rarely order new drums but have been thinking about some add on’s.

I would imagine the lower price is because of the dollar vs the euro? I read production in Germany is very high right now due to energy costs so a bit surprised to hear about this.

Whatever the reason it’s a good thing for us Sonor players.

I always check Sonor products on Thomann's site because they tend to fluctuate frequently. I use the Benny Greb snare as a USD/EUR indicator. I actually bought that snare for $619 from them. Even with $40 shipping it was still a fantastic deal.

You can also mess around with the SQ2 configurator on Sonor's site for fluctuating prices.

Ah, the Tesla marketing method. Irritate everyone who bought a kit last week and before. :)
I ordered a snare and a rack tom BEFORE the price drop but Erik @ cymbalfusion.com gave me a nice deal and I've already gotten the snare so no big deal. I have talked to a guy in San Diego though who ordered an $8700 kit before the price rise and he's a little PO'd. His cost is over a grand less now and he hasn't take delivery yet!

Hmm, wonder what these would have priced out at now. Just picked up my two add ons I ordered back in April last year:

I ran my config with the new prices, it's about $600 less today. I've had mine for about 2 years, took 8 months to get.

Just a thought , I play the drums to the point of - “I need to be locked up” ,, Consistently every single day , probably as much as most drummers on a world tour , if not more.

The amount of time I put in behind this drum set over the past month is to the point of “insanity” …

…. And I say this statement without blinking , The Tama Star Bubinga , with its thin shells and sound focus rings , is such a world class instrument , producing a sound no other drum set can produce , the 13 inch rack tom is to absolutely live for - if I did not own this drum set , and knew what I know now, with all the time I put in on this instrument , I would pay double to own it tomorrow … and let’s just say this is the most expensive instrument TAMA makes , the BUBINGA is worth every cent.

In fact if someone offered me today double what I paid for this instrument in cash, I’d say peace out Girl Scout!

Sorry people , wrong thread , meant it for the TAMA thread , point still stands :)

Most dealers will be ok with a payment plan. Given the wait you may have close to a year to pay it off. Might be worth considering.

If I were to get a SQ2 it would probably be medium maple. I already have a phonic, hilite, and lite so I have most bases covered but the hilite used Italian maple which is much softer/buttery than the North American maple they use today.

I’d love a vintage Sonor Vs SQ2 video!
But I until that happens here’s a great SQ2 vid:

I am shocked by the news. Tesla dropped their prices and maybe Sonor is doing the same before the economic downturn. Is this the start of the trend of other drum brands dropping prices? There is a really limit on what drummers will pay. for a top line kit. It maybe that materials are cheaper, with a better US exchange rate but I never have seen it drop that much. I remember in the last days of the designer series, Sonor was getting crushed on the exchange rate and loosing money on the line.

Folks, I don't want to create a separate thread for this, one of my good customers who bought this 4 pce SQ2 from me a couple years ago (16X22, 7X10, 8X12, 15X16) African Marble Gloss Candy Apple, Medium Beech , is selling the set for $5400 USD. If anyone has any interest , I can be the matchmaker :)
