Monday I'm driving up to Long Island from Pittsburgh to pick up a friend of mine. Tuesday we are headed to Portsmouth.

We tried to do this in January of 2019 and winter weather interfered. We were planning to try again this past May, and everything got shut down. We are going to try again.

We are trading a couple of snare drums to each other. At Portsmouth I'm looking to pick up the Gretsch USA Custom Solid Steel snare. He has some cymbals that he is looking to try out.

I hope to have something to post in the "Latest drum purchase" thread upon my return.

The 6.5x14” solid 3mm steel is one hell of a drum. Hope you like it.

I've watched/listened to the YouTube reviews and it comes across as something special. Although I know that isn't always the best indicator, I have the Gretsch USA Custom Bell Brass that is included in one of the on-line shoot-outs that Portsmouth did. It sounds like the video, so I expect that this will as well.

In any case, if it doesn't float my boat in person I'm sure that something there will. :D

I was in Portsmouth in August. They were closed for in store customers though there was no mention of it on their web site or answering machine (I called to check the night before). So, make sure they're open before you head there.
I was there two years ago and it is worth the trip.

I always tried to get in there when I had to report to the PSNS shipyard over the years. Worth the drive.
