I'll just say who I'd love to play with (that I can think of just now), if I could, or could have: Charlie Haden, Mark Helias, Jimmy Garrison, Charles Mingus, Will Lee, Dave Holland, John Kahn, Klaus Voorman, Tim Drummond... but in general, I love playing with good bass players, and I get to do it a lot, so I'm happy!
My guy!

For me it's gotta be fieldy from Korn. He makes the bass sound like a hip hop drumkit

It used to be Matt Freeman from rancid with his crazy up and down scales in "Detroit" or "another night ."

Fieldy plays a 5 string ibenez, the slap and plucking is crazy. He uses it as a percussive instrument. He is responsible for that heavy Korn sound. Low, down tuned strings, not much mid or treble. At first I thought Korn just had a wicked drummer with all that clicking going on but nope it was fieldy punishing the bass . Most rock bands you can barely hear the bass player.

Matt Freeman on the other hand, prince on the strings of his guitar. He uses either pentatonic or diatonic scales, whichever one it is idk. His solo on Maxwell murder is awesome! Off of the and out come the wolves cd.

Who do you guys think are the best bass players in the world?

Iyo who is the best your favorite bass player?

Here are a few of my favorites.

Ron Wood, the bass work that he did with Jeff Beck in the late sixties and on a couple of Rod Stewart albums in the early seventies was always tight and right.

Leland Sklar, is a great player who never overplays, always supports the song.

Joe Osbourne, a great session bassist. Listen to his work on "The Fifth Dimension" records for a taste.

Donald "Duck" Dunn, solid & tasteful.

Dennis Dunaway, his work with Alice Cooper made me want to be a bassist.

Best - not sure… but my favorite for many years is Brad Houser (of Critters Buggin). If I could play with any bass player it would be him. Deepest groove ever.
