I always liked his playing, I was more a groove and pop player then and did not fully appreciate him at the height of the band, but later came to really enjoy his playing very much.

But I think this might have been just a subtle test thread to see if anyone would catch it....

I think MetalDoucheRuddfan1223 must have attended the FAT DRUMMER SCHOOL OF SPEALINNG (cause you all know how proficient I am at that art)... with the video title slide clearly showing the name of the band, he still managed to misspell it twice... the JAMEZ Gang and the JANES Gang.

Love it, my kind of people! LOL!!

Still can't figure out why he has "douche" in his username. Hahaha...

Yup. I bought an engagement ring from Jim, and so did a close friend of mine.
I was going to ask, whatever became of Jim Fox. Interesting, his musical path did not continue. Anyone know why? Such a great drummer and James Gang was equally great as a band. Joe Walsh stayed on the path, why not Jim....

He also wrote a book on rare and vintage license plates. Like vintage drums, they too can bring some big $$$

Jim Fox is a bad dude. I played on the same CLE club/college/concert circuit with those guys back in the late 60's/70's. Very much jazz/blues influenced but he could definitely rock. Listen to their first LP (Yer Album) and the Live at Carnegie Hall LP for some of his best drumming. People don't realize that James Gang was actually his band. Joe Walsh came along after Glenn Schwartz (PG&E)and before Dominic Troiano (Bush) and Tommy Bolin.

I was never crazy about his drum sound but it was more personal pref than anything.
single headed toms were the sound of the times

I never asked him, but I think it was because of wavering success, especially after Joe left the band.
Though, they do still play on occasion whenever Joe is available.
They played last fall for a Taylor Hawkins tribute show. You can find videos on YouTube.
Jim told me that they're hoping to do a mini tour in the near future. But, keep in mind that they're all getting up in years, and health can be a problem.

This live-in-the-studio version of Walk Away was a massive influence on my drumming. I feel like it has so much more life than the album studio version. Love the James Gang and Jim Fox!
IMO Fox played a pocket Rock and groove-based fill drumming style that suited the songs well ,……Joe Walsh’s playing flourished with that uncluttered but well crafted foundation.

Fox seemed to play well inside of his facility and showed restraint in a era when it was sometimes uncool to stay in your lane…… the songs still sound good to me.

I’m an oldster who played in an “emotive and paid-by-the-note fashion” back in the 70’s , and have come to enjoy the song drummers as the guys who “got it.”

Come to think of it those Slingerlands recorded well for him too!

Jim Fox, I think if you were to buy the movie, or watch. "Zechariah" it was made in 1971 or 72. Maybe 1970 and that was Jim Fox when the band just got together after about a year of being together. James gang starred in that movie...soundtrack.

I have an autographed official Slingerland promo 8x10 glossy of Jimmy Fox from back in the day. Behind him, Walsh was wearing Dale Peters’ P-Bass and Dale was wearing Walsh’s ‘60 Les Paul. Jimmy was in the forefront behind his big ol’ chrome double-bass Slingerland kit and smack in the middle of it…a Rogers Dynasonic.
I’ve always wondered if Don Osborne ever said anything to him about that. Lol
I have one of those posters around somewhere still..I think!

There is a song on the Joe Walsh CD Analog Man called "Funk 50" that's pretty good.

On that same CD is an old James Gang song called "But I Try" featuring Little Richard.
The James Gang played at my high school senior prom in 1970. I recall paying more attention to Fox and Walsh than I did on my date. Perhaps that's why I never saw her again after that evening.

Ha! Evidently prom gigs were big for them that year. (I'm also a 1970 HS grad). They were on the list of available bands to play the prom. Unfortunately there were more hitters than heads in my graduating class and I really don't remember, but it was either "The Brooklyn Bridge" (of Johnny Maestro fame) or Jay and the Americans who got the gig.

Caught the James Gang with my man Tommy Bolin on guitar in Central Park at The Schaefer Festival back in the 70’s. They backed up Frampton. Awesome show!

My first concert was the James Gang in the Colorado Springs Auditorium in August 1971. The acoustics there are legendary horrible, uncorrectable. Bad.

We were on the basketball floor and you could not make out anything like one of their songs. They were either playing at floor level on or a very low platform. Just loud nothing.

Didn't stop us from concerts however!
