I haven’t read this whole thread, so forgive if this has been mentioned, but last night the wife and I were watching Russian Doll on Netflix and what I thought was Billy Joel singing a song called Gotta Get Up, which played every time (at least six or seven times in the first episode) the lead character (Natasha Lyone) wakes up after being killed, was in fact Harry Nilsson. Drummer? JG. I know, a long way to get to the point. Interesting series BTW.

I found this picture of Jim's kit from a 1974 Tour and I just had to save it. Here you go:

That is an absolutely fantastic shot of Jim's kit...and, specifically, of "the" ride cymbal. I think this was the same ride he used with Delaney & Bonnie, Derek & The Dominos, Johhny Rivers, and a number of studio sessions. It's a 20", and I think it might be an old Istanbul K.

The second and final LP of SHF had Ron Grinell on drums. C. 74 was around the time Jim’s demons were catching up so maybe he was asked out of SHF after they made first LP? I don’t think JG played out with them, not sure though. There’s YouTube audio of some SHF shows I have not listened to hear if they introduce the band, though and the sound quality is usually mediocre so hard to hear the drums
The intro on this link says “Jimmy Gordon”

Mike Kellie from Spooky Tooth on that track . This is news to me , but it was years before I learned Capaldi wasn't drumming at all - credits usually weren't listed on 8 tracks . According to internet sources the rest of the album is Jim Gordon, dr.
It's my understanding that Mike Kellie is only on the last track "Rainmaker".

Jim Gordon – Full Interview – Tape A Side A

This interview with musician Jim Gordon took place January 11, 1982. An edited version of the interview transcription appeared in Modern Drummer magazine.

This is the first time I’m making available my full, unedited interview with Jim Gordon. I think it’s time. Jim Gordon is an important piece of pop and rock music history. He is a key part of drumming history. And as far as I know this is the only full-length Jim Gordon interview in existence.

Thank you Scott. I listen to this over and over. I find it absolutely fascinating. Jim Gordon has been my drum idol since discovering him when I was a budding drummer at 11 years old in 1975. I've been speaking to as many drummers as possible over the last few years about him. I did not want his contributions to be brushed off because of the tragic situation that was brought on by mental illness. It seemed like drummers weren't talking about Jim because by saying he was a great musician that somehow that meant they were ignoring his crime. I strove to continuously to get people to not let that be the only thing Jim Gordon was remembered for.

I'm sure he'd agree. If only the doctors he saw had treated him for his mental health issues rather than dismissing them as the byproducts of addiction. There's plenty of blame to go around. Trying to score points on the death of someone with mental health problems is a bad look, even if they did something horrible. It makes me wonder if you're as indifferent to those who have mental health problems but who have been able to get help, or at least not been so far gone as Jim Gordon.
Bravo! I've tried for years to curb this tendency of people who, when Jim Gordon's tragedy is mentioned, they come back with a snarky, "His mother's was worse" comment.

We should be able to talk about the talent, the respect and love people had for him and smile at his contributions to music without always having to minimize it due to a horrific tragedy that occurred due to mental illness.

Hi
This perplexed me, since the attack, authority and tom patterns on the song Low Spark just epitomized JG to my fanboy ears. Today I found Mike Kellie's (RIP) homepage where he celebrated finally getting recognition for playing on the song Rainmaker on the album Low Spark. Even Wikipedia is now crediting him with track 6, Rainmaker, which doesn't sound like JG. So I figure the song Low Spark etc on the album Low Spark etc is Jim Gordon. I recall he had a car crash in England during his time with Traffic and wonder if Kellie was filling in on Rainmaker.
