When I was a kid, my family took a vacation in Hilton Head, S.C. I guess we're talking around 1970 or 1971. We stayed in Harbour Town, and frequented a restaurant / bar called the Calibogue Cafe. There was a guy playing acoustic guitar and singing every evening there around dinnertime. I was already playing drums by then and very much into discovering all types of music. Apparently, I really liked this guy's act, and always left the table to go watch him and applauded very loudly when he finished his songs. My family went there often enough that he eventually began his show by saying, "Good evening, Hilton Head....nice to be here tonight. Hey - where's Stewart?" People would smile & chuckle, and off I'd go, to the front table near the stage. Needless to say, he was very nice and met my family and was more than accommodating to a little boy who was probably a distraction.
That musician was John Denver, in his early years as a performer.
