Not sure if this has been tabled previously (I'm relatively new to DFO), and this may not be suitable for the purist, but is effective, but...

Brass grommet attached - nominal affect on the cymbal, easy to install and replace, fits completely on / under the felt and doesn't require any further modification of the cymbal.

Hope the photos attach; I've had issue with apple/mac drag & drop...

I used a Ludwig grommet on a 20" Zildjian for a friend, works well. grombals are great also. Some marching cymbals have a brass grommet installed to prevent the cut edge of the hole from cutting the leather strap.

nice job Thumper
a gromet can also help relieve stress/strain from those nasty spider cracks at the mount hole "and this may not be suitable for the purist" agreed, in order to install a 1/2" grommet the mount hole needs to be opened up to 5/8" +/- , it's scary when you do it, looks like a manhole.

Thanks Premier! I may expand grommet usage based on your comments...

I used a 7/16" grommet; almost perfect fit & didn't have to do anything to the cymbal.
