That was spectacular - simple yet very musical, entertaining, dramatic and warmly human; no wonder everyone who played with Gene loved him. His heart and soul and love of what he was doing shone brightly throughout the entire thing. Excellent & very appropriate accompaniment, and the sound of those drums! Much fuller than most other jazz drummers from the time (with the exception of Joe Morello). That's why Krupa will always be a classic. He makes me proud to be a drummer.

OK, that settles it: I want a Slingerland 20" x 20" floor tom with calfskin heads, and I want it NOW!

Thanks SO much, GeneZ; I thought I'd seen every Krupa clip on the Interwebz but this one's brand-new to me. I love how dynamically he played throughout; he was an absolute master!

P.S. He didn't contract leukemia until around 10 years after this clip.
