Picked up this 4x14 Leedy Elite snare today in Richmond, IN. I had always thought that these drums were black, but this drum is mostly gold. Has the black worn off ? What’s the best way to clean the surface grime off this drum without harming the finish? What’s the name of the engraving? Thanks in advance for all and any advice.

Nice drum but the black nickel has been removed on purpose in those larger spots. I would go ahead and strip the rest of it off and shine and clear coat.

Some pretty cool stuff right there.
Yes it looks like someone stripped the nickel off. I wouldn't even want to suggest what to do with it from there.
Not an expert and wouldn't want to ruin it that's for sure.
Maybe ask Mike Craviotto.
it is a later 20's early 30's I would say from the 4 screw lugs.
I have a White Elite with the 2 screw lugs, so they did come in Black, gold and White.
