I'm sure there has been many "brass" snare threads in the past but a quick cursory search did not reveal it, so lets do a new one! Jabbering back and forth with JDA on another thread made me wonder just how many brass snares we could get together, It should be a HUGE number!

I think it's more fun to post up pics of drums you CURRENTLY own otherwise we will wind up 200 pages of snares... oh heck, who am I kidding, that sounds great! So if it's a brass shell snare, post up those pics!

I will post a couple of my current Brass examples to kick it off...

1971 Slingerland 5”X14” Gene Krupa Sound King Model #130

2019 George Way 6 ½” X 14” Hollywood Model #GW904 w/ 1of 1 Signed, Patina Finish

And a former owned Yamaha SD493 that served me well for many years!

This is the Ludwig LB416BT Black Beauty that I used from 2013 until it was dethroned in 2019 by my reissue wood Dyna-Sonic. (But I still own the BB...). An interesting thing about this Black Beauty is that the only thing on it that is brass (the shell) doesn't look like brass, while everything else on the drum that does look like brass (hoops, lugs, throwoff) is made of some other metal.

My favourite snare and the snare with the most sentimental value . I bought this snare in 2009 from Todd Trent . In 2010 I went to the Chicago Vintage Drum show with my girlfriend Marisa and she met John Aldridge and like myself was amazed with his engraving work . She offered to pay to get my snare engraved for my 50th Bday present . This started a long friendship with John Aldridge . The drum is a wonderful sounding drum and I love the engraving job John did on it . He also provided all the brass tube lugs , tensions rods , hoops and strainer for this snare as well .

WOW!

In this group my brass snares are rather pedestrian.

I also have a 1970s COB Slingerland, a 1960s Rogers Dynasonic, and a late 1990s-early 2000s Brass Edition Supraphonic, but I don't have photos handy.
