Cherry.... and its a board that would have most likely been rejected by any another manufacture because of the sap pockets... I think it just makes it all the more organic and early!
So Summit IS the shell supplier for this series? I wondered who Josh was using. STUNNING DRUM!
Two Hollow log and one one seamer. All from Croatia and I do not recommend buying anything but a snare from that guy. I would have two Noble&Cooley but that is a long story I think I will have to create a thread.

Not too worthy but they sound like a drum.
I would guess this was a collaborative build like INDe has done with Jenkins-Martin.
In fact, Josh is not sure it will be a real serie but he thinks of doing more work with Gary. That would be good because, as I said, I love his hardware, especially lugs but he doesn't want to sell them so, if you like Summit Shell and Inde hardware, that would be the perfect solution.
So, you meant that you had issues with his drums kit but the snares were good? Why this?

He can make snares. His is featured in an old Modern Drummer magazine. And a nice guy too! - that possibly bites off more than he can chew *these* days - he has made some fine kits for Europeans in the past. But my observations are:
Tree trunks are all flawed with defects. Even the best. The smaller the diameter & the smaller the depth the better for the drum.
Re-rings only on snare drums (did not know this I am a dummy!). The end grain has to be the bearing edge. Ever worked with end grain? Harder than @JDA 's thick skull - The shell in all instances of mine varies in thickness - i.e. you cannot use a router - hand formed - inconsistent.
I will have to take example pics if you really need to see what I mean.
I can go on with (potentially - not saying for sure damifino ) rushed drying of wood warping larger shells - inherent inconsistent stress in the wood naturally - fairly easy to crack if *too* dry or an oops happens - like delivery.

This is a sold shell Walnut 14.x7 Noble & Cooley. Sold a bunch of decent gear to buy it and no regrets! It's the most beautiful instrument I own.
It's also really easy to tune, you can put it at just about any tension and it'll work incredibly well. I love it.
