Just pulled the trigger on this bad boy. So excited for my first solid 1-ply snare, and my first Cherry drum.

This is a cloud-badge Radio King that I traded a cymbal for many years ago. When I got it it was being used as a tom, so no snare mechanism, no bottom rim or rods, most of the white pearl wrap was missing as was about 2/3 of the badge. It did have the engraved top rim and the nickel lugs which i eventually sold. A friend of mine refinished it and I added the modern hardware. It's a great sounding drum and loud! Wish it was more complete when I got it but not sure I would have appreciated it at the time.

Well, after a long excursion with way deeper snares, I'm coming back to my roots and first love, snares with 5" deep, they are so classy.
But I'm very happy to have learnt how to appreciate deeper drums, they are awesome as well, the volume and presence you have with a deep snare is crazy!
Thanks for the nice comments.
Sincerely

i thought I could stay at seven snare drums, but then this one came back to me because I shouldn't have sold it in the first place. Luckily I sold it to my friend who put it in his closet and didn't touch it, because he knew I'd buy it back. I did. It came from the ORIGINAL Craviotto factory in Watsonville in 2017. And then before they moved to Nashville this same friend had all four of the main crew/employees sign the shell; the same names that are on the inside sticker. PLUS my name was added on the inside. Craviotto 5.5x14 Mahogany. It's a beauty and will not leave my possession again!

I have the same drum except with an inlay that I got as a graduation present in 2011. It’s been my main drum ever since. Many have come and gone but this will be with me forever (only pic I have on my phone right now is from a recent maintenance sesh)

I would LOVE to have the inlay on mine, but I know it won't happen. Your snare is real damn sexy!

It was posted previously, but now that it's finally here, I have to post a couple more pics. This thing is gorgeous and sounds amazing. Summit Black Cherry 6.5x14 solid shell.

The search is over, well at least one of them. :D
Found this today, Longo 14" x 6" walnut (on the bottom)
Noticed on Instagram that local drumshop here in Stockholm had gotten this in, so I rushed there, took my cherry with me so I could compare.

First it sounded bit disappointing, to be honest, but I quickly realized that the previous owner (probably more of a collector than player) had way overtightened both heads and the tuning was FAR from even.
So it was actually really difficult to get the head back in tune. It's a factory head from 2010, and it had settled to this uneven mess. I asked the staff for another, tuned it up to match my Cherry Longo that I had with me as a reference....

Well what do ya know: Walnut sounded freaking awesome, bought it immediately! Bit warmer and noticeably drier than cherry. Very compact but big sound at the same time. Actually if I had to choose only one of them, I would have picked the walnut, it was that good, even though I absolutely love the cherry one.
Very impressed about these! 2 out of 2 I've tried have been killers.

Gratulations to all these nice drums shown here. Just wonderful.

I had to keep me back for a long while, as my drum was not very clean (this 'old dirt' some people call 'vintage'). But more serious, I had no photos at all.

Now, I have taken the chance to get snapshots while changing head.

My beloved Noble&Cooley, I have now for more than 30 years. Once I got it, my first word were:

"This drum is better than me."

Because I realized that this snare offers dynamic nuances, I was just not able to play. I have to admit, now, after 30 years, the situation didn't change significantly. It's still better than me. The only thing that changed is: we both look much older than in the 1980s. Anyway, still one of my best snares. And I was surprised how 'dry' is can sound with calf skin.
