i have what I'm fairly certain is a late 70s acrolite 5x14 snare.

I am attempting to replace the snares but the screws on the butt plate are so close to stripped, I'm afraid to put them back on for fear of never being able to replace them. I took them to the hardware store for replacements but the 8-32 size we matched it to has different thread size that's just too big.

Thoughts on how to replace these screws or tips on the size?

The butt plate for a 70's Ludwig Acrolite will use 6-32 screws. That is assuming it has the original butt plate (with the Ludwig logo). Hope that helps.

Thanks, Geardaddy - the snare has all the original parts and hardware, which is why I didn't want to replace it if I could avoid it. I appreciate the help!
