I have a Ludwig 6 1/2” hammered bronze snare that over five or six years has developed black tarnish spots on it. Is there a way to clean them off or do these drums have a clear coat of some kind that prevents cleaning/polishing. It spends most of the time in a case

“Flitz” metal polish does a great job on cymbals.

I'm fairly certain that the clear coat would need to be removed. Others have described doing that and letting their shells age/patina naturally, or polishing out tarnish and reapplying a clear coat.

Man, I was afraid you would say that.
