I like the look of these (even without a bass drum mount) but not such a good price for Europe, a lot more more expensive.
Would love to see a break down of how the price ends up so different.

USA

Same kit in UK

If that approx. 1500 price tag is not just this resellers misprint, then this 3 piece kit is going to be in the same price range here than Gretsch Renown, Tama Starclassic performer, Dw Design, Pearl Masters Maple, Mapex Saturn and Ludwig Centennial kits. And some of these kits are 4 pieces.

Looks like it's cheaper to buy the kit it in Guitar Center, US and ship it to Europe

Worst name ever/ maybe not
Given the extent to which we obsess about every little thing about drums in general, and the inevitable consequence on these forums for anyone who shares an opinion on Ludwig in particular that is less than agreeable, I think Ludwig should have named the line Neurosonic.

...and a modern vintage line called, Oldsonic...

...a massive 17-piece, double bass power tom kit called Supersonic...

...a mesh head practice kit called Nosonic...

...an electronic kit called Digitonic...

...an inexpensive, wrapped, bar-band kit called GinNTonic...

Hmmm, just noticed my resume was returned from Ludwig's marketing department...and it's attached to a restraining order. That's odd...

Add VAT + 3.8% import duty, plus the dollar/euro or dollar/pound rate and there's your answer.

Our recent currency value drop hurts how affordable things are notably. I can't imagine profit margins are particularly big either.

It does not add up with your formula, not even close, even when calculated with Swedish VAT, that is whopping 25%. The US price is 999$ that is 850.
850 x 1,25 x 1,038 ? 1100. The UK price was marked to be 1500.
Usually prices in Europe end up being the same as in US, but just in Euros. 1000$ end up to 1000, and that makes me suspect that 1500 is a misprint. Because with this pricing it truly is cheaper to order from US just as long the shipping stays under 500$.

I'll stand corrected. Gear prices over here have jumped in the past 18 months. I saw the cost of some go up 20% in the space of weeks when I was about to buy a kit last year. I feel for retailers.

I tried to buy a Black Beauty when over in the summer and it just wasn't worth the hassle/risk of getting it through customs.

At the time, a new one was approx 600 here (Pre most recent price increases. Most likely these were existing stock from prior to price increases). With the dollar rate as it was at the time, it would have cost me 530. Over 10% isn't to be sniffed at domestically, but if I got stung on import duty, it would have cost another 23.4% on top. It just wasn't worth the risk. I'm really disappointed as each time I've gone to the states previously, I've returned with a drum related prize, or two. This time, it just wasn't worth it.
