I have an old World War II era field drum and I also have a 6.5 x 14 supra from the late 70s that is like brand-new I would post pictures but they always turn out sideways

Here's the reason I sold it. She's in the shop getting re-lacquered at the moment.

SWEET, I haven't heard the Black Galaxy Acrolite, do you like it?

How does the Joey Kramer compare to your Supra as far as sound goes?

I've always loved the acrolite. Picked this one up at Goodwill for $65 (including stand, case, and a Remo double braced cymbal stand). I'd be happy to trade it for your '64! :laughing4:

The '64 Supra is chrome over "Ludalloy" with COB hoops. A true survivor with absolutely no pitting on the shell. I would assume your '64 acrolite has COB hoops as well, so the sound would be very similar. The depth of the Joey Kramer, combined with the brass shell and die cast hoops make it a different animal all together.

Thanks Dana. The Jazz Combo is a little ripper. Very articulate and crisp. It has the original 12 strand snares and 12 strands seems just perfect for these.

There were a few others that got sold over the years (still kicking myself for selling that 5x14 six-lugger with the two-piece brass shell - idiot!). Here's what I have currently.

- 5x14 Supra (not sure how old; keystone badge, serial #114905)

- 16" Ludwig field drum - this one has been used on several symphony gigs.

- a kinda/sorta Ludwig: a 7.5x14 made from a cut-down 10x14 Ludwig marching snare drum shell (the shell was literally rescued from a scrap heap).
