Ludwig tension rod question

Always been curious why Ludwig uses standard chrome tension rods on their snares with brass or copper finished hoops and lugs. Anyone know?

The aforementioned money, and also durability. Most brass hardware is just thin plating over chrome that will tarnish or wear off. Rods are expected to see metal to metal contact. Chrome will last
