Hello Forum,
I bought this late 70’s early 80’s 6.5x14 snare the other day...rivets and all. Description was black cortex.
When I opened the box and looked at the wrap under the light, it almost looks like a dark mahogany cortex of sorts, but I cannot figure out what this wrap is called. It was not in the 1980. It does not appear to be faded as the color is consistent under the lugs. Any ideas?
Perhaps the glue bled thru and tweaked the finish, or the snare baked in the hot sun, and it broke down.
Photos are below, let me know if you have any idea on what it’s called or ideas on how the black cortex was transformed!
