Picked up a Black Panther Snare Drum on GC used, a Thanksgiving present. The price was the best I've seen at $149- so I went for it. I've been researching these for weeks now, heard some videos on YouTube- plus I like 13" snare drums overall. It is Premium Series and there is no info online about this series, in fact there is very little online about the earlier Black Panther Snare Drums in general. Hoping some folks with any Mapex knowledge can chime in.......Thanks.

That's a Great snare! It's made up of cherry and maple plys (around mid 2000's)
I use it with an Emperor coated on top. Sounds fantastic. Much more versatile than the Yamaha Musashi.
It tunes easy as well.
The black is a transparent black finish. If you look at the bearing edge, you will see the mix of cherry and maple, which along with its size,
gives this snare a beautiful sound. The triple flange power hoops make it sing as well.
Mapex makes fantastic wooden snares with excellent quality and tone. This is a fine example.
