Watching the recently released Springsteen No Nukes 1979 DVD I was reminded that in that era, Max played a wood finish Slingerland kit with Ludwig dbl tom mount. I think you see that same kit in the "Making of Darkness" video from some years back.

I don't recall too many people in rock playing Slingerland in that era, althogh George Grantham in Poco had switched from Ludwig to Slingerland sometime in early-mid 70s.

I recall by The River tour he had switched to the WMP Ludwigs, also on BUSA tour 84-85, I think that was the tour where he sometimes had his cymbal stands screwed into base supports under his kit, like plumber pipe? Or maybe that was the next tour.

The Ludwig WMP is also on the Tunnel of Love tour 87-88.

The next time Max appears playing with Bruce is on the Blood Brothers DVD 1995, where he's with WMP DW, and ever since.

Anyone know what he played on the BTR tour after he joined in '74?

There are some photos of Boom Carters brief tenure in E St Band, playing what look to be Rogers.

Neal Peart played Slingerlands at one point, as did Neil Smith of Alice Cooper. And we can add Phil Ehart of Kansas, and of course Danny Seraphine did.

I’m sure there are others, but these guys immediately came to mind.

First ones to mind mind rocking on Slingerland would be Bill Ward with Sabbath, Artimus Pyle with Skynyrd, and Frankie Banalli with Quiet Riot. Not sure when exactly Bill switched to Tama

I love Max's playing. he put out a CD in the early 90's that was called Killer Joe and I love it. I think this album is what inspired him to form Max Weinberg and the Mighty Seven. I used to have the CD years ago and it looked like he might have been playing a WMP Gretsch set. It was hard to see in the pics and now I only have the album on my Apple music downloads. It's great stuff though.

Bev Bevan with ELO (and didn't he fill in on a heavy metal gig) and David Robinson with The Cars were also Slingerland guys
Bev actually played with a version of Black Sabbath for a while. Great and underrated drummer. His stuff with The Move was brilliant!

John Bonham playing Slingerland on Zep 1. Also used them in some early gigs. Supposedly a set once used by Jim McCarty of the Yardbirds.

Phil Rudd of AC/DC as well.

I believe (and hopefully he'll correct me if I'm wrong) but our own @Bun Carlos recorded "Live At Budokan" on Slingerland drums back in 1978.

I saw Max on the Darkness On The Edge Of Town Tour in 1978 playing Slingerland. No bottom heads, with the mic inside the toms. What a sound!

And of course Danny Seraphine played Slingerland until the early 80s when he switched to Yamaha.

Ya, I saw CT in 79 and Bun E was rocking Slingerlands. Next tour I saw he had Ludwigs and so did his "twins" :D

I'll add Albert Bouchard from Blue Oyster Cult to the list as a Slingerland guy as well. I think Rick Downey also used them with BOC but I think he was using Al's stage kit when I saw them.

Seems like Slingerland has a bit of a stigma these days...don't know why. They're fine drums.

Jay Burrid of Chase was an endorser of Slingerland. I remember his chrome-over-wood, double-bass set. Very cool, and very heavy!

Whoa, Bun E! You're on here! I was mostly about bass when I first saw CT, but always played and admired your drumming, especially how you'd beat a crash cymbal into submission playing it like a ride. Didn't hurt that my drummer friend who worships you tried to stick his hand through a fence to shake your hand, and you pulled out your lighter and tried to burn his finger :D Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us.

I’m seeing Slingerland prices go up lately ….
It won’t be long and they’ll catch up .

Should have kept my big mouth shut! Still, I think it's sad to see CBS Rogers drums go for more than choice Slingies.
