Mij restoration

My first bass drum circa 1967 was recently found and brought home for some tlc. Still looking for the rest of the kit . In the meantime I have to re glue the ply’s and rings. Will be followed by new edges. Coming along slowly but nicely as I have a minute here and there.

Yeah there’s a Whitehall out there in the internet marketplace needs everything and the wrap is cracked. I was going to grab it for wrap for inlay but he wants a lot for it and shipping is more than the drum. Thx!

Yup. Trying to find the matching pieces/parts is very challenging. Was my first kit so a lot of sentimental value

Hoop repair all set. Drum was bounced pretty good probably when they threw it in the trash. Have no fear glue and quick clamps here. Homemade strap clamp. 1/8’ cord held tightly by one of the clamps

Almost 24 hrs later clamps off glued up nicely (titebond) Next up fill sand and paint. I may hold on that until I find another and do them both at the same time

Vertical grain plys like a Saint George kit and other mid range 60's kits.

Thanks Sinclair! It's a fun one for sure as this drum takes me way back to fond memories of jamming in the basement up in Rochester with my brother on horn, he was Herb Alpert and I was Nick Ceruli! That Taste of Honey Album, a happy childhood memory!

The imports had some of the best wraps....This is nitrocellulose just like the usa companies , it captures the view of the sky/clouds very well. Thx!

Amazing wrap! Don't know about the drum, but anything with that gorgeous wrap can't be bad!

Thx! The drums not bad at all. A thin 6 ply shell measures about 7/32” or a hair under a quarter inch.

Seen worse edges on some Ludwig’s I’ve had lol

This has happened to me before when I was posting about something I was working on. Somebody was gracious enough to help for the sake of it!

Such a great community of folks here on DFO!
