My buddy just sent these photos to me, and I thought I would share them here. An elderly neighbor of his passed away recently, and he's been doing some work for the gentleman's widow. She heard he was a drummer, and asked if he would accept her late husband's drums as payment, as long as he took good care of them. Here is the Rogers kit he ended up with. And, it includes a SIGNED CONTRACT from Gene Krupa!

They other day he went to pick up the cymbals, and ended up with a full set of 602's - 20" flat, 20" ride, 16" crash, 14" sound edge hats. Also ended up with some A Zildjians - 20" mini cup ride, 18 medium thin, and 14 hats.

Wow looks like an amazing kit. Cast collets , 22 bass and all the trimmings very nice. That’s exactly what my wife would do.

I had a great uncle back east who died intestate and I'm getting $2,400 from his estate.

Thanks uncle Tony, going to put a nice little plaque in the bathtub flower garden in your memory.

Wish I had this luck though.

Nice!

Look like Gene got $800 to play from 9 pm to 1:00 Am. Not bad for 1952!

hard to make out the name of the venue, but it was located in Springfield, Missouri.

Put an add in the paper saying you are looking for older drums ( your choice on the wording). I might not use collectable or vintage.

$800 bucks back then is worth about $8,000 in todays cash. Big money for the 50's for sure. Awesome!!!!
It wasn't bad money- but note the contract is for him and 12 musicians- so that got watered down quite a bit. Especially when you factor in that musicians got real pay back then since the AFM had a lot of power in that era.
