Hey guys! I just picked up this vintage set for an amazing price of $100 and wanted to know more about its history and it’s worth if anyone knows.

24” bass
18” floor tom
13”&14” rack Tom
14” snare(Pearl free floating system steel shell)

The lugs are earlier ones, around mid-80s, before they moved to long lugs (one piece from top to bottom).
Looks similar to these: http://www.drumarchive.com/Pearl/Pearl1984.pdf
The lacquer on the inside should be mentioned, but I don't see it in this catalog.
Those tom sizes are larger/deeper than what's popular these days, but if you found a 12" and put the 18" on its side, you would have a nice 12/14/18 jazz kit for small gigs!

For more details, head over to https://www.pearldrummersforum.com/.com and ask around.

Join the pearldrummersforum.com and post in the Vintage section. There are a couple of guys on there that really know the early MX/MLX series. That said, I've never seen one lacquered on the interior also. $100 is a steal, but unfortunately, these don't go for much. I think it is because Pearl used the same lugs on all of their lines as well as on their stencil offerings.

$100 is a really solid score for these pro level maple shells. Pearl lacquered the interiors for only a few years, I believe. I have the exact same MLX shells with those lugs as well, in 10”, 12”, 13”, 16”, 18”, and 22”. Mine are also black lacquered inside and out. I have an original Porcaro rack as well, which I currently don’t use. I’ve kinda split the kit into two different kits. I do a 5 piece 10”, 12”, 16”, 22”, and a small 13” with the 18” as a kick. I’ve had these drums for 32 years and they are STILL a gig workhorse. LOVE these drums!
