I haven't seen these discussed since 2017 (if I'm searching correctly). They're now discontinued. I find myself still very intrigued. Played them in person?

Yay. I own a set. Roundover edges, sound great. Kick is to die for.

I've read a review where they couldn't get the toms to not sound like cardboard. I didn't get that impression based on videos I watched. Maybe it depends on who's tuning, haha. However, a common thing I did read was the bass drum spurs were less than ideal.

I bet those are great. I'm talking about the 7ply maple/poplar/maple version.

Yes, the m/p/m are the Club Date USA...the cherry/poplar are the imports, still nice. I have the USA's with the imperial lugs, duco finish.

Limited personal experience: played one for a couple weeks as a tour rental kit, and a drummer friend has one.

Pros:
•Light & easy to carry
•Kick sounds great
•Toms sound great on my friend's kit

Cons:
•Iffy build quality
•Toms sounded meh on rental kit
•Long tension rods subject to being bent

Subjective Considerations:
•Gullwing spurs

Overall, I wouldn't buy one sight unseen. But if I played one and it had the magic, I would go for it.

DCP did a Ludwig USA kit shootout....the Club Dates are up first.
I watched that last night. The comment section seemed to be in favor of the Club Dates, which was surprising to me considering what it was going up against. I think the one fellow who did the video said it best that they are "vibey", which isn't for everyone.

My hesitation is that I already have a C&C PD1 and PD2 which may be too similar.

The special editions that memphis drum shop or chicago drum shop offer are great but they come in only 2 finishes, burgundy sparkle and walnut.
