Greetings from Iowa City. My name is Chad. I played drums in the '80s and early '90s. I took a hiatus for a while as I did not have the room or living conditions conducive to playing the drums, but have been playing guitar since that time. Apartments, condo, wife and kids, etc.

Fast forward to 2019. The wife and I got a new house. It came with a little office area I dedicated as my "music room". In filling this area, I found enough room to add an Alesis Command mesh head kit. I added an extra tom and cymbal pads to it. It was okay, but they still didn't feel like real drums to me.

Well, that all changed in the last year. I sold the e-kit and one of my Les Pauls I had in the room, and upgraded to an acoustic kit. I bought a PDP Concept Maple 5 piece kit with hardware and a set of Zildjian S series cymbals. (I don't have time to dedicate to being in a band, so I went lower end. I mainly play alone.) Well, me being me, it didn't take me long to decide I needed to start doing upgrades to my kit. So far I have added a Tama Sound Lab Project 5.5x14 hammered steel snare, and am waiting for my '71 Supraphonic 400 I won on ebay to get here this weekend.

I am looking forward to the knowledge, advice, and friendship that the forums can bring. Sorry about the book for my backstory.

Welcome - let us know how the new Supra sounds - I also have a '71 400 and it's easily one of my favorite snares.

I had one back in the '80s. I think that is why I just don't care as much for my maple snare. It just doesn't have the same CRACK the 400s have. I have found that it sounds better tuned lower than I tune my metal ones, though.

Welcome to the forum/ assylum... a bunch of us are a little cuckoo but most mean well and are harmless. Most are Helpful even!

I hope you got your vaccine against G.A.S. up to date (gear acquisition syndrom) because this here forum has a way of creating some needs you didn't know you had. In 2 years I bought 4 snares and 6 kits, plus about 8 cymbals, a few pedals and a bunch of hardware. ;-)

I already have G.A.S., and I have it bad. I'm cool with having a good time, relaxing, and getting/giving a little crap. That's why I signed up. I can't stand a forum full of people who can't take a joke. Life is too short to get upset over nothing.
