Yes. A lot.

In my 31 years of professional playing (getting paid), I've worked 29 New Years, a good chunk of those being overseas ones (hotel gigs). Most of my NY's gigs have involved playing at, or near, a hotel, so I've rarely driven to one (maybe 5 or 6 times?). Makes the experience much more enjoyable, imo. Most of mine have been nightclubs, 3-4 sets, 9/10 to 1/2 (a few have gone crazy late), dance covers, generally lots of fun.

The hotel gigs were great, my room was minutes away, backline was provided, tons of free drinks/food, lots of dancers. Overall, good times. My worst NY gigs were the ones where I had to commute there. Driving, hauling gear, can't drink, drive home super late. Not fun.

I got the check for my NYE gig today.
It'll pay my car insurance for a full year with some extra leftover!

Truly a year-end blessing, Wahoo!

Wow! Any video of the band anywhere?
What style of music was it.

Where was the gig? I mean who/where is paying that much to a band?

Im guessing you made in the vicinity of $1000-$1500..maybe more?

Thats unheard here in upstae NY.
Most Ive heard is $750.but average for really top bands is $500.
Thats an educated guess

Yes, you're guessing.

It was a private event at a ballroom/dance hall.

Not that I'm aware of.

Dinner set, then Dance/ Variety
We used to refer to these as 'society gigs' back in the day.
Black tie affair, you know the drill

I'm 63, Joe.

Favorite color is blue.

Would you like my social security number and mother's maiden name as well?

"cheap" compared to the rate I was paying in California, yes.

Thankfully my current policy as a Farm Bureau Member becomes quite affordable providing I remit the yearlong balance early, and in full.
