Picked up the kit yesterday. Definitely worth the four hour round trip!

Sizes are 8x9, 10x9, 12x10, 13x9, 14x12, 15x14, 18x16 and 18x16 bass. I am the 4th owner from new. They largely date from mid to late 80s.
The seller said it was originally sold as a bop kit - 10/12 toms, 13 as mini floor, & 18" bass. Over time he then added the extra lower toms.

Chrome is very good to excellent on all drums. The finish is largely very good; just a few minor knocks here and there. All die cast hoops are absolutely fine. The inner liners are all intact and in great condition.

The 8" tom is almost like new.

The 10" tom didn't come with a batter head but that's not an issue:

12 and 13 toms are also good. Never played a 13" tom before so that's a new one for me:

The 15" is in particularly nice condition, and sounds lovely. This is a Mk1 Black Shadow due to the different lug design, so early 80s:

The 18" floor tom is (apparently) very rare. It's one of the drums which is in best condition:

The bass drum is really the only drum with a bit of damage, and just on the hoops; the shell is mostly very clean:

I'm thinking I will sell the 14x12 tom - can't see myself using 13/14/15 toms together.

The drums basically just need a bit of a clean, and I'll fit new heads after I've done that. First I need to buy a few cases!

Overall, I think I "chose wisely".

I'm currently using Evans EC2's and EC reso's on all the toms with an Emad2 and Emad reso on the BD. There's an Evans EQ pad in there too.

Always thought it a shame to put coated heads on a Resonator.
Ah ok, I'll look into clear batter heads too. In general I prefer the warmer sound of coated batters. Of course, whatever makes the drums sound at their best is good, so will investigate clears too. Do clears mean the drums are still versatile in different styles, or are they mainly for 'big' rock situations?

I've never fully subscribed to needing particular heads for specific genres of music, but at much higher levels of playing than I'll ever attain maybe it is?
I've always played in rock bands and my Resonators for years wore Remo Pinstripes, which were ok to my ears but having spoken to a drum tech he convinced me to try the EC2's.
Having used these for a number of gigs this year I'm genuinely happy with them but wonder if I could have used G2's as I have no extra muffling on any of the toms and the internal liners, ironically, appear to suck a lot of the resonance out of the drum. The cast hoops probably add to this as well.

Hi dab35dab35, I'm in a similar situation - I've just picked up a monster Black Shadow kit and am deciding what to do as I don't feel I can hold on to all of the drums. I've just posted a thread on it.
Mine is a mix of original Black Shadows and the later Resonators in the same finish. Similar sizes to your set too.

Let me know what you decided on!

Welcome to the forum.
I can`t imagine the challenges involved in jockeying for floor space in an orchestra pit would be like.
Sounds like you are getting well prepared.

Well I gave the rack toms a bit of a clean a couple of weeks ago. Here are the results.

I went for Aquarian Super 2 coated batters and Classic Clear resos. Lovely warm but punchy sound.

Few close ups :
