I've definitely been told to lighten up on the rimshots with my 14" x 6.5 CD Maple.

It's actually the virgin voyage of my alloy at a gig tonight. I'm excited to see how it does.
First time ut with a N&C 6.5X14 maple the sound guy and everyone in the band complained about it being too loud. Why I let it go.

A solid Walnut is on my wish list. Glad to hear good things about it in this thread.

Saw this comparison video the other day and thought that the Noble and Cooley walnut kit sounded fantastic. Well, they all did. To my ears, the N&C seems to have a bit more attack than the other 2 brands (?).

When I listen to the DCP sound files, I like the maple the best. I was showing my girlfriend the video just because the drums are so visually striking and she liked the maple by a long shot. So if you're going to get one......

When I was considering purchasing a N&C SS, the Tulip was coming on as a close second. It's a unique drum and the more I listened the more I appreciated it. While the Walnut is an awesome drum, it is also more of a current flavoe of the day wood and there are a lot of nice Walnut options out there.

Here is one Tulip, 7X14 and a Walnut 6X14. If anyone wants to spoil themselves for Christmas, and get a good deal in the process, send me a message :)

Walnut is beautiful wood, and also sounds similar to AM, which is far less expensive. Walnut is a very oily wood to work with and very hard on the tools, but the end product is so rich. I had a complete walnut kit [stave] i made over 30 yrs ago and that 20"bass drum is still in my head!

I recently purchased my first N&C snare, a 6x14 SS Walnut. A fantastic snare, high quality build and finish. Can’t go wrong with N&C.
