Late Christmas gift to myself. Late 70’s Progressive Jazz in Walnut finish. Slingerland mount was said to be originally installed at time of order. Not thrilled with added Pearl style spurs or where the Tom mount is located, but it’s a gorgeous player’s kit.
The bass cymbal mount was replaced at some point with what looks like a Gibraltar mount. The original had 4 bolts in a square diamond configuration.

Anyone know of a better mount that might fit better??

Gorgeous looking kit! Funny thing you mentioned about not being thrilled about the spurs or tom mount position. When I was in high school, a friend of mine ordered a beautiful standard 5 piece natural maple Gretsch shell pack kit without bass tom mount. Apparently, in 1979, Gretsch tom mounts were not good enough for him. When he received the kit, he drilled holes to accommodate a Tama bass mount tom stand. His poor wood working skills attempt didn't end with good results. His drilled holes were not precise but elongated. Holes were not even close to being drilled clean with shell plys left in splinters. To top it off, the Tama bass tom mount was crooked! Ugh!!!!! However, what I do remember was that beautiful Gretsch gloss natural maple finish. Completely flawless!

Doesn't get much better than a Gretsch kit in a Walnut finish.
Gorgeous kit.
I think Slingerland and Gretsch were both under Baldwin in the 70's, weren't they?
I seem to remember seeing a picture of a similarly sized Gretsch kit that was owned by Tony Williams back in the 60's and it had the Slingerland tom mount, too.

I do not believe that is a correct statement . I do not recall Slingerland owned by Baldwin ever . They change ownership a few times but I cannot recall them ever being owned by Baldwin .

New year, new kit! My first anything from Gretsch. Brooklyn 12/14/20/5.5, antique oyster nitron. Picked up a few days ago, and was happy to get them two months early (after waiting 5 months). Still have yet to play fully, but with a finger tap, the toms are noticeably more resonant than my 60s Slingerland. Need to have an A/B test between the two. Took a YOLO approach to get a second set with this purchase. Excited to dig in!

Ok, maybe it was before the Baldwin era.
I just seem to have this memory of Gretsch and Slingerland being in cahoots for a short time. Maybe late 60's/early 70's?

Here's my Brooklyn. I love these drums more then my Gretsch kit I owned back in the late 70's which I believe was a USA custom kit, if that was what they called them during that era. Enjoy your kit and love that nitron finish of yours! Note, I do have a Ludwig Supraphonic which IMOP is the best sounding snare ever created!

Gretsch kit, Ludwig snare and Zildjian cymbals. Classic combination.
Love the finish on your kit and the 20-12-16 setup, too.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

I bought a Gretsch 14x6.5" WMP snare in 1972 or '73. Loaned it out and never saw it again. Hard lesson learned.

What can I expect to shell out for one today, in good to excellent condition?

Gretsch Renown shell bank! Got the 10-12-16-22 with matching snare used on Reverb for a great deal and then added 14 and 18 floor toms. I had my doubts about the 18, but recently got some Dunnett spurs and a riser so I could try out a bop configuration. Loving it!

That sucks man. Sorry you had to experience that.
A trip to Reverb and maybe your local dealer, should give you both a new, and used, answer to that question.

Thanks man. I'll do the online research, nearest reputable dealer is a long ways away.
