Curious.
Do businesses shut down?
Do you use PTO when you can't get to work?

Lots of smaller businesses do shut down. Yeah, most people would use PTO if they can't work remotely, or an hourly person just wouldn't get paid if they can't use any. I work remote almost 100% of the time, so it doesn't really affect me. There are some who have to go in no matter what, and it's tough. I've had to do that in the past, and it's no fun. Very slow, lots of accidents. I would be able to get out of my house, but completely unable to make it back up my driveway or unable to make it up the freeway ramp in my truck. They will salt some bridges, but that's about it.

The good news here in Western NY is that this brutal cold snap will last only 36 hours. It will be back into the 40s on Sunday and may hit 50 early next week. My brother in Texas just went through a major ice storm with downed trees and powerlines. Up here, we've had less than 10 inches of snow so far this winter.

I live in the city, and and we've had much, much more. As you know, around these parts a mere mile can make a huge difference. I really do need to get out to the burbs! Stay warm! :)

(A few years ago, this front rolled-in and remained stationary for almost 2 days. Those on the other side recveived 7 feet of snow, myself included). As you can see, down-town only received a dusting.

I forgot a jacket going out last night, It got a bit chilly after 25 minutes of walking outside.
I did drive with the top down in the car on the way home though.

It's funny because I thought about our Buffalo DFO members right after hitting the "Post Reply" button last night. Here I am touting how mild this winter has been in Western NY, with barely 10 inches of snow in my town, while just down the road, certain parts of Buffalo have received over 100 inches, most of which came in two huge lake effect storms. I feel for you. You were probably tired of winter by the time the holidays rolled around.

Getting a little chilly here in Southern CT. Likely to see 0 temp in the morning then back up to 40 on Sunday. Wacky weather for sure. Stay safe and indoors the wind chill is not your friend.

It's all good. The way I look at it is, if I choose to live here despite knowing what I do about the snow, well then I deserve whatever I get! :p

I’m an hour south of Pittsburgh and it’s been in the teens all day, singles digits tonight. Back into the 30s tomorrow. I grew up in New England, so it’s more or less par for the course. Spring is coming!

Been in the Caribbean for about two weeks now.
Communicating with some peeps back at a few of the businesses … they’ve been dealing with ice.
Ain‘t coming back till that weather gets its head on straight.
When I do get back, I’ve got a very cool member here holding my “new” Gretsch kit for me.
Can‘t wait to finally take delivery of my very first “real” Gretsch kit.
But it’ll wait till they turn the heat back on in our neighborhood.
What is this Gretsch kit you speak of?! I must of missed it if you already showed it off in another thread

Colder than it has been in NC but I can’t complain. It’s not a real cold like y’all are experiencing

West of Boston...pretty much the same. 1st really cold day since I switched from oil to gas. I'm a little concerned about the basement because the old boiler radiated some heat...the gas boiler is tiny (room for more drums!) but it doesn't radiate anything.

I'm sort of amazed how quickly this will blow thru. Its brutal...but its fast moving.

Haven‘t posted pics yet.
Haven‘t even brought it home yet.
I wrote the check and left it all with a member here.
He was very cool about it and has kept it safe until I get back.
It is a dream kit for me … a real honest to goodness Gretsch kit.
He‘s got a few more kits for sale (might still pick up the Slingerland) and is one of the good members … trust is deep.
Heck, the kit is paid for and he still has it.
Should let you know how much we trust the guy.
Anyway, I will pick it up next week and hopefully do a new kit thread.
I am giddy with excitement about this one.

The cold snap was through with CO yesterday. It was 50+ here today. However, my precious little Summit steam bent cherry snare is freezing it's little butt plate off on a UPS truck somewhere in the heartland. Be safe, little snare, and get home safe.
Hope it’s well packed to withstand the elements!

Our high was -7F in northern VT today. Not bad if there's no wind, but it was a bit too breezy for me. My wife and I got home after picking up lunch, and found our 13 year-old out in the yard digging out a snow cave. Made us proud, lol.

It’s so cold here (Buffalo) I had to bring my beer in off the porch so it doesn’t freeze.
