Well yeah, when Aerosmith started doing the dude looks like a lady stuff a lot of us were changing radio stations. There's a vid on Youtube about how/why they fired Megadeth like two shows into a tour but I want to know why Megadeth was even on the bill?

Ted Nugent defined the term shredder and had some really great stuff but I couldn't spend 3 minutes in the same room with him. Personality thing.

Love Ted and love Dave Mustaine , makes the music more listenable for me .. Would rather bang my head against a big tree then hear a note from Billy Joel or Bruce Springsteen. :)

There are several that fit, but none as much as The Eagles. Don and the late Glenn are just too much. The coup de grace for me was when I learned that they will remove anything anyone ever does of their songs on youtube.

For those who don't know. If you put up a cover song on YT, the copyright holder has the option of doing two things. 1. They leave it on YT, declare it their work, and any revenue it ever makes on YT goes to the copyright holder. This is what most copyright holders do. 2. They also have the option of just having it completely removed from YT. This is what the Eagles do, mostly via Don and Glenn as they hold the copyrights.

Most artists see a cover of their work on YT in multiple ways. First, it's an honor to have your work covered. It also could generate revenue for the original artist. It also keeps that song in the minds of fans, it's advertising if you will for the original.

Or if you're a bitter old a**hole, like Don Henley, it's "stealing" and he will take it down! IMHO.

Yeah, and if you start reading about Henley as a person, he is just a complete d*ckwad.

Read up on the deal where the underage 16 yr old prostitute died from an illegal drug overdose under very fishy circumstances at Henley's house during a crazy party in 1980. Henley gets off with a $2500 fine plus probation but then gets all butt-hurt and writes DIRTY LAUNDRY after that, cuz his name was in all the papers.

My father once told me, “Just because someone is a great artist doesn’t mean they are a great person.”

This was part of his philosophy that it’s best to avoid idolizing other humans. Admiration is fine.

I’ve worked on separating the art from the artist. It’s not always easily done. I don’t gravitate to gossipy news about bands (unless there is a legal aspect to it.) Sometimes, though, it’s just too saucy to resist.

If I’m reading a biography or autobiography it’s after the subject has left the bonds of earth.

But to answer your question (not exactly on topic): Lance Armstrong.

Not soured but I still haven’t listened to the last TOOL CD all the way through since it’s release.

I think I’m going to be more like Dave and not dwell on stuff I don’t like just because there’s a thread. But generally, if I liked it before, it has to sound super dated for me not to like it now.

For me, it's the opposite - I listen to a lot of music now that I didn't listen to in my youth. I just have a greater understanding and appreciation for what they were doing as musicians, and the impact they were making (I'm talking about prog and classic metal bands like Yes, Jethro Tull, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, etc..).

I’m mostly in the separate the art from the artist camp, so while I probably wouldn’t buy tickets to see some of the people I have lost personal respect for I can still enjoy their art.

The only two bands I ever loved that I really don’t enjoy too much anymore are Led Zeppelin and Nirvana. I still respect them, but I think I just have heard them enough to last a lifetime.

I had a 20-year love affair with Sting's solo work.

The Dream of the Blue Turtles
Nothing Like the Sun
The Soul Cages
Ten Summoner's Tales
Mercury Falling

With Brand New Day my interest was waning and with Sacred Love, I was like I'm out.

I rarely, if ever, play anything by him anymore. I guess I've moved on. Same thing with Toto.

I'm still a child of the 90's in a way and love that era of music. Except Sirius Lithium. There is so much great stuff that happened in the 90's and what does Sirius play? In heavy rotation.

Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Alice in Chains - that's it. Those 4 bands and a couple of odd songs here and there.

I have a hard time with John Melloncamp lately. I have probably played hurts So Good in every band I was in from the mid 90's until now. That and Sweet Home Alabama still pack a dance floor though so what do I know... John just seems like a douche now. He seems angry at so many things and would rather stay home and paint. I like Kenny Arnoff's playing though so that makes it a little better.

I also have a hard time with Michael Jackson. He's had some of the best players of all time on his records but man I just can't get past the pedophile thing with him. I stupidly watched a movie called Leaving Neverland and it just completely grossed me out. Like they should just torch the whole neverland Ranch and start from scratch. :puke:

Michael Jackson was a damaged individual, but I have zero problem listening to his songs. I can even listen to the Beach Boys' 20/20 album, which has the work of THREE, yes three convicted murderers on it(Jim Gordon, Phil Spector, and Manson). Look, if you're not one of those people who can't separate art from the artist, then, fine, but that's a VERY slippery slope. Think of all the excesses that rock stars got into on a daily basis, with both illegal substances and underage females.....is that OK? How about spousal abuse? What I'm saying is....if you're looking to make value judgments on rock/pop musicians....probably barking up the wrong tree.

My particular band is Guns N Roses. The first album is unassailable, even some of Lies. But once they did Abuse Your Intrusion Phases I and II or whatever, they totally lost me. I wake up at night hearing that dub dub dubba dub fill that Axl forced Matt Sorum to play over and over like musical waterboarding.

I think what really bothers me about them is that they have exactly one sound. Now that sound is good, and certainly has sustained them for decades, but what they really can't do is play covers. They bring absolutely nothing to them and sound like a sub-par bar band. Knockin On Heaven's Door might be the worst. All the pain of the original's existential crisis reduced to what sounds like being annoyed that someone cut in front of you at Mc Donald's. And Axl's ad-libs? eek. Hay, hay, hay, h*change station*. They got their mojo back with Chinese Democracy, but that one took forever!

OK...this is going to be somewhat un popular...I'm not a Foo's fan, after their first few albums they became to smoothe, and I'm actually a little 'upset' about how much attention Taylor's death has gotten...yes he was gifted and a pleasant person but he was also a father and a spouse and IMO he failed them which to me is somewhat unforgivable. I have a friend who has lost family and friends to addictions and tried to explain to me that often middle age drug users will try and 'do' what they did when their bodies were more resilient....and it kills them...The Foo's could have used his death as a way to bring attention to addictions and the down side of drug use...wasted opportunity.

I used to be a big ELO fan...but Jeff Lynne with hired guns doesn't excite me.
Placebo just came out with a new album...with a new drummer...and it sounds like a Placebo cover band, and not a good one.
I have been a big fan of The Church for decades...their new album has one original member...though the drummer has been there longer than their 1st and 2nd combined)...I'm not excited.
Did Peter Koppes jump ship again?! I saw them when they played Atlanta a couple years ago with Jeffrey Cain as their multi instrumentalist and it was a cool show. He played a lot of the leads and such. I’ve seen em a couple of other times back in the day.

I’d like to clarify something that I recently found regarding Copyright Claims as I am experiencing this now. I also thought no monetization wad possible when a song is covered on YouTube. You can now share revenue if you are part of the YT Partners Program. YT actually encouraged me to change my monetization to on, on all of my cover songs that I have posted. I did this and am now seeing funds roll in. It’s tiny, but it is a reality. Now if you have a copyright strike on a song, that’s a no-no. Fortunately all of mine have been approved for sharing of revenue.

I will say I was really surprised to find this out.

I used to be a huge Dave Matthews Band fan. I still like the music for the most part. I saw them a bunch in the early 00's. Sort of soured on them after that. I've still been to some shows since but I think I'm done now. I saw them in November and I just can't anymore. I still enjoy Carter Beauford. I just think the band is creatively finished and my musical tastes evolved.

As far as other reasons, Ted Nugent, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison. I was never huge fans of any of them but knowing they are not very good human beings makes it worse.
