In other sports news:

SMU's mascot Peruna was named the best college mascot in Texas by Texas Monthly:

Killed the Fordham Ram w/a kick to the head when they brought the Ram too close to him, mounted the Texas Tech horse, sent UTexas's Bevo to the ground w/a kick in the side and took a dump @ midfield @ TCU during the week that TCU unveiled their new turf, has spent the night in every SMU sorority house and lastly, when visiting NYC w/Mustang Band, had his own cab, elevator and hotel suite!!!

Gotta love the little guy!!!

What the hell is he?-- a wildebeest?.....marko
Actually he's now a Shetland pony ... at the time of the Fordham incident he was a miniature horse. Shetlands live longer .... SMU aka Southern Methodist University was originally a theology school with an arts college attached. They had a football team that was originally called the Parsons. But as the college grew in course offerings the name was changed to the Mustangs, because an administrators secretary saw the football team practicing and said that they looked like a bunch of wild Mustangs the way they were running around on the field.

The mascot's name is Peruna ... Peruna was the name of a "medicinal" elixir from the 20's which was popular in Texas at the time of Prohibition. SMU had adopted the tune, "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain" as a sort of fight song and one of the coaches changed the words to "She'll be all Peruna-ed Up when she comes..." From there the resident pony mascot in resident was then named Peruna.

The Peruna that pooped on the TCU field was in residence when I was still a promising young man at SMU. His ashes are entombed in a corner of the new stadium called Peruna Plaza which will be a final resting place for the current and future mascots.
