What types of hobbies do you have beyond drums and music? For me, drums is mostly it since most of my time is simply working or spending time with the family. I’d like to do other things, but just don’t have much time to commit to other endeavors. Let’s hear about your hobbies!
I’m like you. Work full time, family, drum a couple of hours a day, no time for anything else.

At one time it was collecting and restoring vintage writing instruments, mainly fountain pens. These days it's reviewing books and music (and products) on Amazon and other sites. All in fun and something to keep me busy.
I also have a few fountain pens i do alot of sketchs with them my favorite is the Montblanc legrand 146 beatufful fountain pen.

Not sure if they’re just things I happen to do with my free time and as part of living (excessively or obsessively), or actual hobbies: Reading, cooking, listening to music and collecting some vinyl & cassette tapes. Thrifting is great, too, so’s following soccer (the American & European leagues and the major tournaments). Hope to get into cycling sometime soon; bought a decent road bike (a Centurion with very colorful ‘80s graphics printed on it) but haven’t gotten around to it - also want to try fixed-gear riding.

Although it’s not likely to be kosher to admit it here, but drums is not even numero uno for me.

Bikes is… anything with two wheels… motorcycles, mountain bikes, bmx, ripstik… then surfing, body boarding, sup, skateboarding (though I’ve pulled the pin on the latter, too old and concrete hurts too much) and I also love snow boarding. I just really like peeling into corners and getting maximum lean angle.

Musically, besides drums I play guitar (electric and fingerstyle acoustic) and have recently got into bass.

Being an electronics tech, I’ve built plenty of scratch built amps, pedals and assorted bits and bobs.

Love kicking footy too… Aussie Rules.

Edited and added later- I forgot kayaking, kayak fishing and fishing. The weird thing is that I was pier fishing when I typed my original post, but was getting zero bites.

Behind my kit
Drums, music, Dodger baseball and old movies. (In that order.)

In baseball all that matters is the loss column ,, with that being said , the Dodgers just last night passed the greatest franchise in sports , on the year …. Darn it! Dodgers 30 , Yankees 31.

My top 10 -

Jesus , family , Sabbath , Walking Dead , friends , 2 channel , helping people , French cuisine , bikes , DRUMS!

I have to admit the same. Sadly, my hobbies are not even numero uno - my job is. I LOVE what I do. I love it so much that I am still in the workforce in my 70s. There, I've said it :)
Our admin assistant at work is nearly 80 and I think she feels the same way. I don’t know her complete story and I’d assume she’s in the position to retire at any time but she’d rather be at work.

But I also know that she can’t stand her husband and she’s waiting for him to pass on. Betting she’ll retire after that. ;-)

I don’t think that is sad at all. To love your job is fantastic, and not a lot of people can say that.

Luckily I do too. From 10 years of age, when I scratch built a homemade regenerative AM radio… it set two clear paths for me. One was to suddenly having access to endless music I had never heard of before (I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere) and the other was to lead to a lifelong career in electronics, telecommunications and ICT… which I love, and it amazes me that I get paid to do it.

So, Mike… not sad at all.

I've enjoyed reading this so far, looking forward to more reply's as well. It's fun to get a little more glimpse behind the curtain of our fellow family members.

Like most of you, I don't have a lot of time left to myself between a day job and weekends gone playing but when I do, I enjoy motorsports and all things related to that. Primarily sports car racing (think 24 hours of Daytona or Le Mans) but also enjoy drag racing, sprint cars, land speed records... really any motorsports that is not "spec" based or a single manufacture supplier. Once you take the creative engineering out of the equation you tend to loose me (why I have not followed NASCAR since the early 90's).

I enjoy reading and researching vintage motorsports and will attend events to shoot pics when I can squeeze it in and finally in the same vein, I love to buy, build and collect 1:64 scale diecast of sports car replicas but sadly have not had the opportunity to do the building part since I started this last show but will be back to it soon enough. I'm really just a sports racing geek!

You had me at “sprint cars”! Love ‘em. They’re like poetry in motion. On dirt.

Cycling. I rode my bike across North America in '18. You can read about it here:
I'd do it again if I had the time and money (and permission from my better half).

I'm also an amateur carpenter. My on-going project is my back porch, built from scratch. I'm sitting on it now.

Great thread, makes us all seem just a bit less one dimensional knowing we have other hobbies and interests.

Drumming is of course at the top of my list, as is collecting, listening to, reading and writing about music more broadly. I'm into cycling as well (road and mountain), and have recently gotten into kayaking as a great form of exercise (perfect for drummers!), meditation, geographic exploration and bonding time with my father. I'm also into photography, as well as more traditional art making like drawing, painting and sculpture, my oldest hobbies actually. That said, I'm the head of a high school art department, so I find myself less likely to do those things as a hobby after being immersed in them all day.

I also used to make my own kombucha, and volunteered as a shepherd and farmer for half a year in the desert, hence my profile pic. Over the years I've also dabbled in playing the clarinet, harmonica, marimba, bass and ukulele. I love to cook and garden as well. My issue has always been having too many hobbies and interests, hence ditching the other instruments and focusing on my first love, drums.

I've taken up making fishing lures out of old spoons, broomhandles and ... pieces of broken cymbals .

I read constantly , go for long daily walks usually along the river , and there's always something to fix or improve around the house . I collect vintage hand tools from ' west Germany ' , England , U.S.A .

At 68 I suppose joining a euchre club is next .

Could be worse .

Besides playing drums my hobbies are buying drums and cymbals, selling drums and cymbals on consignment, and watching videos of drummers who are more talented than I am. I have a lot of hobbies, as you can plainly see.
I can relate

I make hiking sticks, but don’t hike.
I like that second one from the left!

Being in NC I enjoy a good hike in Linville Gorge or the other beautiful spots in the Blue Ridge. Have done lots of backpacking in other areas of the country as well.

Lately I have been paddle boarding with the family to beat the summer heat

I enjoy a good read and theology/philosophy/anthropology studies

Collecting vinyl and listening to tons of music in general, always trying to learn. Keeping up with the latest shows when Phish is on tour, or the newest jazz albums as well as equally discovering old gems that I hadn’t stumbled upon before.

Music has always been numero uno for me. Wether drumming at home, being on stage, watching other more talented people on stage of having my mind blown by a record on psychedelics

I’ve gained more interest in economics in general over the past few years, and enjoy learning about investing and the financial markets. It’s frustrating lately, but it’s an area I like to learn about.

I enjoy traveling with my family. Fortunately, my spouse and I took some cool trips before we had kids. Since then, we rented a beach house a few times and the family loves that. With Covid, it’s put a big damper on getting out much, but hopefully that will change. I’m also somewhat of a Disney fanatic. I love going there, but I’ve also enjoyed learning about the history. I kind of geek out with Disney.

I’m taking my son to Disneyworld in 2 weeks right before he starts kindergarten!
