Well, don't know if I'd quite call it a hobby, but it's something that I'm passionate about.

For the past seventeen years I've been involved in animal rescue. My wife and I do transport for a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier rescue group. (And occasionally for other breeds and groups.) Over the years we've transported over four hundred dogs to new homes.

Most of the time, we transport the dogs across Pennsylvania and Ohio, although on occasion transports have taken us to Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, South Cariolina, Louisiana, Florida, and Quebec. (I'm sure that I've missed a few.) My wife is as involved in dog rescue as I am.

It is ridiculously rewarding on a personal level to be involved in getting these dogs into their forever homes.

Hobby? It's a lot more than that.

Weight training at the gym, and digital image editing (Photoshop) at Radiantpics.com. It's a paid hobby I've been doing for 20 years or so. Commercial photographers often aren't very skilled at editing, so I'm sort of a Mr. Fixit they can hire to repair their mistakes.

I made my living as a non-fiction writer (newspapers and speechwriter in Washington DC), but I also wrote one novel just to see if I could finish it. I did. I guess that counts as a hobby.

I used to love flipping American drums. I pretty much have given it up because there’s no reasonably priced inventory anymore to be had. Although, I’ve always got an eye peeled. It was awesome for 15 or so years before everyone caught on, Lol.
Golf is great but getting older is tough on the handicap. I keep thinking I can turn the clock back once in awhile. No bueno.
Working on my 1955 Chev. Belair is fun. I’m seriously contemplating getting one of those turn key chassis kits and installing an LS with some good power but I’m coming up about $20k short. I’m saving for it though. I just put half down (in June) on a new Gretsch Broadkaster set isn’t helping the car effort. Priorities might be a tad bit askew on that considering I’ve got 3 sets already. Lol

Here's what we board game hobbyists call a "shelfie". It's about a year old, so a few of these games have gone away and a few more have come in, but it is the main collection of games my wife and I play regularly with friends and family.

Love that ‘55! Our bass player has a 4 door that’s pretty much his daily driver. Still has the inline 6 in it with 3 on the tree.

I'll bet it's difficult to not want to keep 1 or 2.....or 10!

I read a lot, always non-fiction. I finished a really good biography about Warren Zevon recently, Nothing’s Bad Luck. I hit second hand bookstores and Goodwills when I’m killing time between clients on my part time medical transportation job. I’ve found some good reads, cheap. Currently, I’m working on the updated version of The Glorious Cause: The American Revolution, 1763-1789. I picked it up at the visitor center in Concord during our trip to New England a couple of weeks ago. Also, I hit Ollie’s periodically, they have a really decent book section.
I walk a lot, usually four miles at a good clip. I dropped twenty pounds in the last six months and am now trying to find a dietary groove that will maintain where I’m at. It’s harder than gaining or losing, that’s for sure.
And—-drums/guitar/bass and working on my voice. In that order!

I mostly work, and don't really drum much or have free time for hobbies but...
-TNR and rehabilitation of feral cats
-renovate the house
-building a parallel society/economy/network within the state
-various local political groups/projects
-restoring/rebuilding various discarded objects (drums, cars, motorcycle, tools, electronics, etc.), and other various DIY projects
-creating a food forest on every square inch of my property that isn't a building or driveway, and building water purification/storage systems
-reading: religion, history/politics/military, gardening, other various topics
-starting to add 3D printing and CNC machining to the list

What types of hobbies do you have beyond drums and music? For me, drums is mostly it since most of my time is simply working or spending time with the family. I’d like to do other things, but just don’t have much time to commit to other endeavors. Let’s hear about your hobbies!
I do at least one or two triathlons a year. The long swims, rides, and runs are really meditative when you're in shape for them. The first 4 or 6 weeks of the training plan are brutal though if you've let yourself go for a while.
