They’ve been building up to it for a few years . They are getting in this year . They can be one of those dangerous teams .
I hope you’re right. It’s been 45 years of pain for us M’s fans. My entire adult life! I turned 18 their first year 1977.

There’s a difference between “hoping” and predicting . When you first touched on the playoffs you were predicting a Dodgers / Yankees World Series . Not so fast . There’s still a lot of baseball to be played . As evidenced by the recent Yankees slide the same thing can happen to the Dodgers . That’s why I mentioned to you about peaking at the wrong time . Ups and downs with really good teams throughout the season builds unity , when those teams peak at the end is usually dangerous . Teams that seem to run away with it all season most times run out of steam in the playoffs . The Mets have had more injury’s throughout the season then anyone and yet they still have the second / third best record in the MLB . They have the deepest starting rotation out of everyone . They just lost 2 of their starters and have no problem plugging the holes . They have a deep bench with tons of power at any given time . The new playoff format gives the best two teams a divisional first round by . There are now good teams that wouldn’t have made the playoffs that will now get in . Wildcard goes to a 3 game format . A couple of those teams will peak at the right time and can be dangerous .
Of course early-season predictions (including mine) usually become more cautious towards the end of the season. but I'll still predict that the Dodgers will make it to the WS, and would be happy to see them beat either the Yankees or the Cheating Astros in it.

It's always fun to see which "sure thing" teams go cold or (God forbid) suffer a key injury right at the end of the season. Sometimes we see a swingy team get hot at the right time and make a big push. My wife likes to call our beloved Cardinals the Cardiac Cards, because we've come to expect the unexpected. Last year was a perfect example. Who saw a 17-game win streak coming, to charge into the playoffs? And then they handily lose the wild card game. If all the players play at their full capacity, they could go quite deep. If not, it'll be over quick. Yankees/Dodgers is the safe bet, of course, but the predictable often gets shaken up by chance and circumstance.

Hey @Mapex Always , I didn't want to derail the virgin BD thread and didn't want to ignore your query. Let's say that I'm still hoping for a Dodgers/Yankees World Series, although I'd also absolutely LOVE another shot at those Cheating Astros.

Love this post!!

Another big win last night for the Yankees (about time) , 2 in a row against 2 of the best pitchers in baseball …. After going 2 and 8 against a bunch of “who’s that guy” pitching :)

Anyways great thread! …. And thank you for your answer.

Cardinals all the way. I went to the Cubs/Cards series back in June at Busch Stadium and also caught the first Marlins game after that as well. I stayed in the hotel directly across the street from the stadium. During game days, a guy would setup his drums and play on a street corner in the shade right near the hotel. I learned after walking by in the mornings that he would just leave his kit there overnight - every night! I guess he has a trust relationship with the people of St. Louis - don't touch my drums. Well, I couldn't resist...

The games were fun and we got some balls signed by several players - time to turn the game on now actually...

I particularly enjoyed the Huston Asterisks players and even Baker being resoundingly booed at this years All Star game in LA. Even Carlos Correa now with the Twins got an earful each at bat during their two losses at Dodger Stadium earlier this month. No Dodger fan will soon forget.

Joe Kelly will forever be a hero in L.A. for his brush-back pitch to Correa in a 2020 game against the Cheaters and his pouty reaction after striking him out:

Cardinals starting pitching is shaping up nicely.
They should be since the Yankees gifted them a sub 4 ERA lefty for a light hitting planter fasciitis speed and defense guy who probably will not play again this year. Can you tell I’m still upset?

With my Cubbies being in year 3 of a 108-year rebuild …

I’ve gotta believe the Dodgers are the team that not only looks good on paper, but looks SO good on paper that they are going to go all the way. What a lineup.

Harrison's defense is so excellent that his average offense makes him a no-brainer starter, at least in Busch Stadium. He was a fan favorite here and will be missed. However, I haven't met a Cardinals fan who was not in favor of the deal. Montgomery has been even better than expected, winning all four starts while giving up a single earned run over four games. The last start went nine inning and if not for a single hit would have been a perfect game. Thanks, Yankees.

Well, sorry (not sorry) about the Guardians beating your Yanks yesterday. Feels great to come back home with a split.

And Aaron Judge is a fantastic player, but his current payoff slump could not have come at a better time.

Of course, being Cleveland, anything can happen. (I’m looking at you, 2016 World Series!!)

Thanks, but with the Dodgers bats ice-cold I'm going into tonight's game expecting that we'll lose. That way if we do lose at least I'm prepared for it.

You’re Dodgers and my Mets were red hot all year long , it’s what I meant when I said not good to peak to soon . At least the Dodgers still have a wing and a prayer but I’m behind the Padre’s all the way . Phillie is about to down Atlanta , spoke to soon Atlanta just hit one out . Anyway , Yankees and Pad’s are a perfect example of peaking at the right time . Phillie too .

Baseball is really the only sport I watch and I love my Phillies! The 2022 Phillies’ scrappy play reminds me of the 1993 team. Here’s hoping they have the same result as the did against the Braves and go on to the World Series.
