I really hope the Astro offense comes alive soon. Our pitching has been outstanding but if we keep this up we’re gonna have a repeat of the 2021 World Series where all of our at-bats are non-competitive and we just get slowly steamrolled. It’d be nice for the break out to come against Cole in New York on Saturday.

The Yankees are getting good pitching and defense, but absolutely no clutch hitting. I'm curious if they'll sign Judge in the off-season or let him go to another team? He had a great year but is not coming up too big in the post-season.

Yes the lack of hitting by the Yankees has been wonderful !!

The Dodgers averaged nearly 6 runs per game over the entire 162-game season, including 19 games against San Diego. They averaged only 3 runs per game over the NLDS. The Dodgers defeat was much more about their hitters abandoning the approach at the plate that had been so successful during the season. The Padres' pitching, while good, didn't overwhelm the Dodgers hitters, the hitters simply choked when they came to the plate with runners in scoring position.
2 sides of the same coin. Good pitching limits hitting. My main point was about the intangible .... deeessiire...one didn't see much hoopla and high-fiving in the Dodger dugout. The Padres were pumped and ecstatic, having been beat down by LA all season. Dave Roberts over-managing style never helps either.

I think the Phillies have quite an explosive team and their pitching appears rock solid. Looking at them in the playoffs its difficult to reconcile how they were 3rd in the NL east.

True, but during the season the Dodgers hit consistently well even against good pitching (only lost 4 games in a row once all season). They simply slumped/choked in the NLDS. I agree with you 100% about desire. To me the Dodgers looked much too complacent during the last few weeks of the season (after they clinched the NL West title) and took their foot off the gas. No question that San Diego had much more to prove and wanted it more.

With each season I get better at accepting that regular season success can be celebrated even if you don’t win it all in the playoffs, and that any postseason success is worth celebrating even in the years you fall short. 2019 and 2021 were tough losses to swallow, but I feel like losing to the Phillies this year wouldn’t be the end of my world quite like it was with the Nationals and Braves. Still, it would be so sweet to win another championship. Philadelphia looks scary hot right now. It’s gonna be a tough series!

Oh it is a happy day the Yankees are out again !! Too bad the Houston Cheaters made it in . To be honest I don’t like the Phillies either so I probably won’t watch the Series this year .

It's funny how different a position Houston finds themselves in compared to one year ago. In 2021 our pitching staff was stretched thin by the World Series. Verlander was out for his second straight season, and a forearm injury in the ALDS had ended McCullers's season. We were running on fumes by the end of the ALCS so against Atlanta our starters only totaled 20 innings with an ERA of 7.20! The bullpen, bolstered at the trade deadline, played above their heads held things down and gave the offense a shot in two of our losses. They posted a 2.53 ERA in 32 innings which surpassed their performance for most of the regular season.

Fast-forward to 2022 and the offense took a step back overall from 2021 in the regular season, but in the playoffs they've been showing off a clutch gene last year's team found only sparingly. An ability to score two-out runs and come back from deficits both early and late has us in a much better position to finish it off this year. And to continue to point out the difference a season can make, the 2022 pitching staff has been absolutely phenomenal. If they continue to perform as they did against the Mariners and Yankees it will be hard for the Phillies to do much better than either of our AL opponents who've been all but shutdown since game one against the Mariners. The Phillies will be the hottest offense we've seen so far this postseason, hopefully being the best pitching staff they've faced cools them off.

I'm happy to have home-field advantage and this feels like a year we absolutely must take advantage of it. Since 2017 we're 3-7 at home in the World Series. Even in years we've had home-field advantage we're 1-6 at home. We've also never won game one of the World Series. This absolutely feels like a year we need to get up 2-0 if we want a real shot at winning this thing.

Wow, am no Astros fan, but nice post. You should be a sports writer.
