Oh it is a happy day the Yankees are out again !! Too bad the Houston Cheaters made it in . To be honest I don’t like the Phillies either so I probably won’t watch the Series this year .
Exactly what I came in here to say. Can't pull for the division rival Phillies (I'm a Braves fan), and I don't like the Yankees and can't stand the Astros. So I may flip it over every now and then just to see what's going on.

My team was almost last in the National League this year so I don't perceive any large bias.
I wonder how someone thinks of Lance Armstrong every time someone is still hung up on the Astro's. The stories seem similar enough.
Throw in Pine Tar and you've got a whole other discussion on honest play in the Majors.
People still out here acting like they were the New England Patriots...

Nonetheless, I know the majority of the playoff teams were Top 10 in payroll, but it's always a good day when the tops aren't in the Series.
I dislike buying a ring and the Dodgers/Yankees seem to be pretty high on the list in recent years.

Altuve still pisses me off though.

Why Altuve? It’s well known he was openly against the system within the clubhouse and he refused to use it, yet for the past three years he’s consistently taken responsibility for what his teammates did without trying to avoid blame. He’s still asked about it in every national interview and every time he acknowledges that it’s as much his responsibility as those who used the system. He refuses to place the blame on any teammates and never rises to the bait when asked if the team has been treated unfairly or if he knows of other teams that were doing the same thing. He’s one of the most humble professional athletes you’ll find and should be a joy for anyone to watch play.

Full transparency. Similar to how someone can eat meat but go "I don't eat (X, Pork, Octopus) because they are smart" and get called out for the hypocrisy. Sometimes it doesn't quite make full logical sense but we can call it a quirk.

His first few interviews after the news came out showed that other teams were really jealous of the Astro's success. His game 6(7?) interview was iffy at best and didn't seem genuine.
He is/was the face/leader of the franchise (in my eyes).
I could also see some pitchers who got rocked by the Astros lineups losing their roles and getting sent down.
He's not solely responsible for ruining careers by any means, but he was a leader on the team and the MVP.

A bit like Tatis in a way. He was a big role model and like a decent guy (I'm fine with showboating if pitchers can celebrate a strike out), only to disappoint a ton of people when the news came out.

Nonetheless, it was years ago and I'm excited for this series.
Cheating has also been a part of baseball for a very long time so I don't take it as hard as some.

Yes, I believe so
The steps taken to prevent electronic sign stealing and the scrutiny teams are now under makes it all but impossible for anyone to attempt what teams were doing through 2019. It was never an Astros-only problem and there's plenty of investigations and reports from before 2017 through 2019 for anyone who wants to find out just how pervasive it was. I think if the system didn't utilize something as goofy as a trashcan the scandal wouldn't have caught fire the same way and MLB probably doesn't make near the amount of changes they have to the game.

It also didn't help that you had Jomboy immediately begin peddling a rumor that the Astros were using taped-on buzzers, a rumor which has been investigated and ruled out by MLB, but which has never been walked back by the dude responsible for spreading it. Frustratingly, that accusation has cast as much doubt over Houston's legitimacy as anything.

It would have been easy for the Astros to fall off if they'd been dependent on it for their success, but they just keep replacing stars and winning pennants. You have to wonder at what point people will just accept that it's a truly excellent baseball organization that was going to succeed no matter what.

As a fan I'd rather my teams not cheat, but I've never been so naïve as to expect professional sports to be played cleanly. The sign stealing has also confused so many peoples' opinions of what's cheating, what's not cheating, what's in the past, and what's not okay now. Just look at the Judge home run race to see how people are struggling to square cheering one accomplishment while decrying another. You have people celebrating Judge as the "real" record holder because Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa were all juicing, but none of those fans want to scrutinize any championships from the mid-'90s through the late 2000s.

Since the 2017 WS?! How convenient. They won 2 of 3 home games in that WS against the Dodgers. Why did the Asterisks home WS record tank after that as you mention?
Let me guess. ;-)
Reminds me of how Cody Bellinger went from being the 2019 MVP to hitting .200 with no power ever since! Some weird things happened after the Fiers story broke.

I’m shocked the Mets, Dodgers, and Yankees were all eliminated either early or brutally! As a struggling Red Sox fan, I’m just glad the Yankees are out of the race. I like Dusty Baker and sometimes Alex Bregman, but the Astros cheating scandal is too recent for me, so I hope the Phillies do it!

Do you ever feel conflicted as a Red Sox fan since Cora was one of the ringleaders in the Houston clubhouse, and knowing the year you beat the Dodgers in the World Series the team used a camera feed to decode catcher signs and then relayed them directly to the dugout and players on base with an Apple Watch?

It's a genuine question. I'm not playing gotcha. I'm really curious how fans of teams who've stolen signs electronically feel about their own teams doing it.

Woof. What a terrible loss. Plenty of people are going after Dusty for leaving Verlander in for the fifth, but even with his struggles in the fourth I think you have to trust your ace to get things under control.

That said, Verlander just can’t handle the biggest stage. Something like a 5.68 ERA in the World Series and an 0-5 record, not even counting tonight. Maybe Dusty should have pulled him. I’m pretty pissed I put my faith in him again.

If we can split at home tomorrow we should be in a good position to get up 3-2 by the end of the Philly stretch. It’s hard to imagine we’d win more than we lose on the road with how out-of-their-minds the Phils play in front of their home crowd. But their third and fourth starters aren’t as good as Nola and Wheeler so that’s where my confidence is that we can take a series lead before coming back to Houston.

If we flush this result, stay locked in, and pitch like we’re capable of moving forward we’ll still have an excellent shot at winning it all. Even if Verlander gets another start…

What time did last night's game end? I gave up a little after 11:00 PM (Eastern time) and it was only in the 7th inning. I really liked how the previous series started early enough to wrap up before 11:00 out here.

The postponement of game three really negates Houston’s substantial pitching advantage. Suarez will start game three Tuesday, which was essentially going to be a bullpen day for the Phillies, and now Nola can come back on regular rest in game four. The whole schedule has been pushed back one day so there will still be a travel day on Friday, so any hope Houston had of taxing the Philly bullpen in as many as five consecutive games to make up for the reshuffling of starting pitching is also lost.

Damn weather. Build a roof, you bums!

I love McCullers but I wish we would use him in game four and give Javier the start in game three, as well as a potential game seven at home. Javier has been the better pitcher this year. He’s been our most consistent starter outside of Verlander and his one playoff start was consistent with his regular season performance (unlike JV). McCullers will no doubt be up to the mental challenge of pitching in front of an insane crowd, but in two starts in Yankee Stadium this year Javier threw 12.1 scoreless innings with 18 strikeouts and allowed only one hit. He’s probably as ready as anyone to pitch in front of a hostile Philly crowd.

Hopefully our offense stays hot or gets hotter and the Phils lose even more rhythm after an additional day off.
