Very sorry to hear about your dad. Although things will never be quite the same without him, you were indeed lucky to have him in your life for so long.

So sorry man. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him.

My dad was a huge supporter of mine and wanted me to be into sports. I wasn't so he bought me a drum set that I wanted so bad. That was 1966. New Ludwig kit with a Super Sensitive snare. He managed my band for 8 years. We played a concert for him 50 years later and he passed four months later...

He was 84.
He always wanted to be a DJ so music was always on in our house...cars...he leant me the money for my 1st real kit and let me work in his pharmacy to pay him back. We'd share books and CDs...we saw shows together (Buddy Rich, Rush, Ozomatli, Boston Pops recently).

My parents live in an independent living facility near where my band practices...so for the last 8 months or so we'd do dinner regularly. Last week I helped my folks pack their cars for their place on Cape Cod and he was so excited to be on another adventure with my mom (they met in college).

He wasn't flawless...he owned that...but he was all for more learning "if you're not learning your dead...." was one of his famous mantras.

My dad new how I felt about him...and vice versa...things can happen quickly so make sure you let those around you know how you feel...my $.02
Sorry to hear that! RIP!

Lost mine during Covid. That was truly awful to go through. Miss him a lot, I changed because of it. Sorry for your loss.

Both a brutally sad and beautiful post at the same time. While we support and lift you up in this time of grief, we rejoice in a life well lived and loved. He sounds like a person I would have enjoyed knowing.

My prayers to you and your family. I lost my Dad three years ago and miss him a lot. I was lucky to have him all these years (he was 92) but that doesn’t make losing him any easier.

May his soul rest in peace. I lost my dad unexpectedly when I was 18, I had a very short time with him in this world but in that short time I learned a lot from him. He introduced me to so many things that are considered the “good stuff” today which most guys at my age are clueless about, especially music. He bought me my first drum set too when I was 13.
I miss him in my heart everyday!
I have his ring he used to wear all the time (that’s how I always remember his hands, with his ring on) and his 35mm camera he used to carry with him whenever we went to a new place. I live with his memories and two of his objects that remind me of him strongly.

Sounds like a real good guy. Nice you were able to see him frequently at the end of his life. Seeing many people who once their elders get off to independent homes often get forgotten about and it's nice you made the time. Lost a parent pretty young and with my genes I'd happily take 84 as the goal. There's nothing wrong with feeling emotions, any & all, about it for a long time.

Sorry for your loss. I love this mantra by the way. I'm going to adopt it.
