So here's the thing .....

Friday the 14th was a tough day for me ... just a lot of stress and running around in 100+ heat and a time for feeling sorry for myself like one is want to do when one gets caught up on their own affairs.

Then I get a phone call from my room mate.

She's just gotten a call from one of her closest friends. The friend has just been informed by her 18 year old daughter that her step father (the friend's husband) has been sexually molesting her since she was about 11 and she's finally gotten the nerve up to say something. Friend has nowhere (literally) to put the daughter and her brother (age 10) that she and the daughter feel safe. Would we please let them stay here at least for the immediate time being?

Uh, HELL YEAH!!!

OH and btw, when the friend went to pick up her husband at work later, she confronted him with the accusations ... his response? No denial, none, yeah it happened but he hasn't been doing it for over a year now .....:blink: I mean, WTF???

She gets husband home, tells him that she's put the kids in a safe place and she's going to go check on them and do what she has to do .... (essentially she's leaving before she grabs a knife and kills him herself)

She goes to proper authorities, husband gets the hell out of Dodge somehow ... even though everyone knows he's hiding out at his brother's about 15 miles away but still in the county .... daughter is in pretty good shape until mom shows up with a deputy in tow to escort the daughter down to make a statement and start the process. Daughter collapses in an emotional fit, but gets it together and goes.

Mom comes back about an hour later .... a nearby relative has come in to stay with the mom and kids so they can safely go and stay in their familiar surroundings and mom's brothers have hopped a flight from California to come and be a protective and helpful source as mom packs the kids off to family in Colorado. Mom already has the name of the best female lawyer in town and will follow kids in a couple of weeks.

And I thought I was having a bad day .....

My room mate's daughter was in the same predicament 12 years back when she was 5 and while they got her out but it took time because she was living with the father at the time and things were harder to prove. She was living with us for a while and that issue was always sort of under the surface. But things took off and she calls me Daddy now. I was able to prove to her that any male can be a father, it takes someone special to be a Dad.

But now, here's a child (still a child, the friend''s daughter is a bit slow and maturationally probably about 16) who had someone she has considered her dad, (step dad) and he goes and puts her through this????

At least for now the daughter is safe but she's got a long way to go before this is all over and she can start putting it behind her.

I can't for the life of me wrap my head around how a person can do something like that to a child. It makes me physically sick to even think about it.

Thank you, Robb, for being there for those kids. You are a hero in my eyes. Johnny

I dated a girl back in the 70s that had been molested by her father. Back then it was really not talked about, but she was compelled to talk about it. She told me that it was amazing how many other girls opened up to her for the first time about it happening to them. Dads and stepdads usually. Horrible stuff. Ace

Robb, I'll echo what has been said. You are commended for being there for this girl and her family during this terrible period in their lives. It does make us look at our own situation and realize it wasn't so bad after-all.

Peace,
John

That's about as good as you can say it.

Personally - I'd have a hard time not going and taking care of the guy myself. That stuff just infuriates me.

+1

I don't understand how someone can do something like that.

Kudos to you, Robb, for stepping up and helping them out. I know a lot of people nowadays will just say, "It's not my problem" and walk away.

I've dated a couple girls/had friends who have been through this and in one case it was actually worse (her father AND her brother!!)

I know what its like to try to help these girls and the incredible struggle it is.

It's MEN like you that make all the difference in these situations and I thank you for what you're doing.

God Bless You!

You my friend are a class act.I've said this before and say it again;no man stands as tall as when he stoops to help a child.

As retired detective, and scoutmaster, I never got used to nor understood humanoid animals, male or female who hurt kids. The real shocking thing about this abhorent behavior is that the perps rarely show remorse, and in general see nothing wrong with their behavior.

I think we call need to educate ourselves to recognise the signs of child abuse,so animals like this can be identified more quickly, put away, and rendered chemically impotent.

Way to go Robb  Your a class act!

This is kinda related, and I'll try to keep it short.
My wife and I were just talking today about one of our friends who is 42. She has two daughters and married a guy about 8 yrs ago with two daughters also who are younger. Last year she found out her husband had been molesting his natural born daughter for the last 3 years. They caught him at work in a shed with her. She is 12 so he started at nine. Oh yeah, did I mention he also got her pregnant  This guy has been OVER MY HOUSE several times :x
Wait it gets better. Since then she has been diagnosed with double breast cancer and it has spread to the brain. Her mom also just got diagnosed with bladder cancer. One more, a couple days ago her older natural daughter (24 yrs old) just had to have breast major breast surgury because of a MERSA infection. Because of this infection, she can't even be around her Mom because her cancer treatments has left her too susceptible to infection.

I can't believe we let child molestors free and loose in our society and it is infuriating  I also can't believe that I even THINK about complaining about my life. I am TRULY blessed.

I raised my two step daughters as my own blood & kin. Can't imagine having their sperm donor "Father" doing this to the girls but I wouldn't put it past him. Robb your one heck of a good guy.

We always worry about child predators, but most abuse happens within the family group, a fact we don't talk about much. And you can't tell by looking at someone that they're a molester.

Good work, Robb.

It's all too common. It was never talked about, but there were friends of mine growing up that had all kinds of different brushes with abuse and not just Dads and brothers, but sisters and cousins etc. It is a cycle of abuse that started when the abuser was a child themselves. It is a learned behavior; not a natural one....so, the sick individual needs help too. Yeah, right...we can help string him up by his nards! :angryfire: :cussing: :whax:

Good job, Robb!

Thanks all for the comments. Never thought about it, just did it. And like I mentioned I'd just been through something similar with my roomie's daughter.

Anyway, here' s the latest.

Mom thought she had all the financial stuff. Wrong. While she and the daughter were talking with the sheriff's office, the step dad went in and cleaned the account. They think he's headed back to New Mexico where he''s from and there is the possibility that he may have been involved in something like this previously.

Mom's brothers arrived and another relative gave mom some money. Kids left out early today for Colorado with one brother. Second brother and mom just left out behind them about an hour ago. Mom and daughter symbolically burned their respective beds.

Although we have advised mom to stay behind and visit with a killer attorney first thing Monday, emotions are high and she's more worried about seeing that her daughter and son are safe. Hopefully she won't stay out to long.

As most people know, Texas is a right to carry state, Fortunately for me my older son has my guns as he's trying to teach his wife to shoot. It was all my roomie could do to keep Mom from actually doing something. I mean really, it's not going to do the kids any good if the one parent they can count on is in the pokey. And speaking of pokey, the step dad is a total maroon. He'll be caught, tried, be found guilty and given the attitude that most prisoners in Texas view child molesters ... I'm sure he'll be receiving a new definition of POKEY.

This whole thing actually kept me up all night last night .... Dealing with a similar situation with my sorta kinda step daughter and her experiences with her father was so long after the fact that I could look at it objectively and help her out and learn how she was feeling and thinking. But this was different ... it was real time, right now and unfolding all around us. Talk about "in the moment." And during all this the daughter was totally on autopilot. We were talking about kid stuff and she was playing with her hair. Then she commented about her being soft and she asked me to touch it ...Talk about a total hesitation!!!! But I did because I knew that she had to have SOME males that she could be comfortable with.

Sadly, this otherwise good kid has a lot to deal with for quite awhile.

And that doesn't even begin to cover the son who has yet to be told the REAL reason for the sudden move.

Hey Crew,

Call me "psycho" on this subject, but (in my opinion) child molesters deserve 4 different fates:

1) Dead, shot on sight, then buried. (trial or not, if caught in the act)
2) In prison, rotting away forever, hopefully getting "punked out" as some lifer's "girlfriend".
3) Left completely alone, to suddenly pass away (accident, of course) in a crosswalk when a steam roller happens to be driving by.
4) A rope, gasoline, a chainsaw, a chipper/shredder, and a keg party for all friends and family members to see it all done properly. Then post it on YouTube, or the local news channel.

Cheers,
C. P.

Wow, you are a good man my friend. Stories like this make my skin crawl. I have four daughters and cannot imagine what her mother and the child are going through. I'd have absolutely no problem showing this POS the business end of my .45 and do the world a favor.
