HI guys, I have these Paiste 2002 Sound Edge hats, both black label and 15", but to be honest I'm not too familiar with dating Paistes and evaluating it. Can anybody help me out with an estimation of when they're from and what they're worth please? I can't really find any comparables right now online, so all input is welcome, thanks

I don’t know dates but those are the you-know-who hats so they tend to get big $$$.

So for those black label 2002s, the first number on that 6 digit stamp is the year (in this case the 0 stands for 1980)

The 15" sound edges are a lot harder to find so I've seen them anywhere from 350-550 easily. More depending on the condition as well.

From what I've seen, the earlier years are the ones that are more sought after as the later years the cymbals as a whole got more heavy, so sonically they changed.

Just to confirm, it has the classic 2002 stamp at the top of the cymbals, right?

Those are the last year of black labels as they switched to red labels in 1981. 15” SEs are known pretty much as rock high hats though they can be used for lighter stuff. Just realize that if you wail on them and they develop a crack, their value will drop off tremendously.

A forum pet peeve of mine is “value” so I won’t speak to that but 15” SEs were made popular by a certain drummer with the last initial of B (I didn’t say it) and they are usually in demand.

Based on what I can see ...they would be an easy $300 from me!

That’s pretty much the bible on Paiste. Maintained by some our fellow DFO members.

Thanks!!

The weights generally come from Zenstat (Steve Black), he has something like 14,000 data points for both Paiste and Zildjian.

The pics, verbiage and some of the videos were collected and uploaded by me, I especially focused on the "black label" section.

There's actually a chart of serial numbers that link to the years.
I used to have a chart but of course I can't find it.
Perhaps this site can help you find your information.

I put together the structure, verbiage and pics, but Todd Little is THE source of data for serial numbers, he has done extensive research on the subject!
He still finds new info on a regular basis and I'm still updating different pages every week.

Yes it does have the classic 2002 stamp at the top! I’ll add more pictures soon. No cracks or keyholes or anything like that either
