Actually, I think the traditional Pearl tom mounts are good, but I know lots of folks don't like them. Just saw this on Facebook. Interesting...

Cool! I just looked on their website and they have them listed there.

Actually, there's a lot of new stuff on their site, and some of the kits are showing the new mounting system.

I've had several Pearl kits and the mounts never bothered me. But I've seen enough complaints on forums over the years that I'm not surprised they caved and changed them.

The higher-end Pearl kits always sounded quite good to me, but those pipe-style holders were always a deal breaker, as I had issues with positioning (and I don’t want to use a snare stand for the rack). A change like this would totally get me to take another look at a Pearl kit.

I’ve owned 2 Pearl kits over 40 years. My first kit and another about 5 years ago as a gigging kit.
Both times I loathed the Pearl tom holders. Even on my first kit when I had nothing to compare them to I disliked their look, adjustment design, everything.
In fact every alternative I’ve encountered in 4 decades was better.
Just my opinion.

It's nice they brought the thicker Masters MCX 6 ply sell back with all the bells and whistles of the top end Pearl kits. The Masters Maple Complete was nice, but I didn't like where the kit was positioned in Pearl's lineup. Either go top of the line or get the Sessions Studio Select. The new mount looks nice. It's funny...with all the stuff Pearl makes (Custom shop level Masterworks, curved booms and racks, great line of snares, etc.), they've done all that and worked around the tom arms. But with that said, there was literally not much else for them to do.

Interesting design on the "R2-Air Suspension System." Points of contact on the top and bottom lugs.. I had always thought that the reason Gauger and the other iso-mount makers stayed away from attaching at both points was because the drum resonated more freely by only "floating" off the top rim..maybe not.

I'm another one who has had a Pearl set since the 80s, never had any problem with the positioning or resonance. If you play with where the drum sets on the arm you can "tune it in" to where it will resonate more freely on there.
