I'm a Gretsch man. I'll stick with Broadkasters forever but Lordy, Pearl's new kits, finishes and innovations are stellar. I got to admit that Pearl is the king of moving things forward. Massive respect to that company.
Not sure about rest of people here, but when I go to GC and look at these modern drum sets, Pearl drums feel the most solid to me for the price. I looked at the decade maple kit and the solid feel of it was like DW Collector drums, i was impressed.

For example?

The simplification of the process for one. Making the build process of high-end kits so streamlined and easy to put together. The new tom mounts are killer and the dampening system on them is unique. I've never seen anyone else make a tom mount where you could control the sustain on the mount and eliminate the use of external dampening on the heads. And then on top of that the new L-arm mounts don't use a ball for the positioning so the positioning is more free.

The new pedal is top notch too. It's like they've taken the demon drive and improved upon it in ways that nobody else would even think of.

I'm sure there's plenty of folks who look at it as just marketing hullabaloo and gimmicks, but for me personally I really respect their drive to innovate and improve.

It looks like they're using the same principle as the Inde mount, which is to achieve dampening by letting the user adjust the stiffness with which the mount holds the shell. Pearl's implementation is obviously quite different though.

It's exciting to finally see a substantial amount new stuff--it's been a while since one of the big companies did a big launch like this.

Someone already mentioned the Inde mount, but I wanted to point out that muffling kills the overtones before it shortens the fundamental, whereas the adjustable mounts at least should affect the fundamental more directly.

I don't see why not using and ball and socket would be an advantage?

I've been using Pearl hardware (stands/pedals) since the 90s regardless of what drums I'm playing. It's reliable, it works, and they do a great job of making minor tweaks/improvements every few years.
Same here. Just about all of my hardware (cymbal and snare stands) is 90s era Pearl and it's holding up great.

They show their gyro lock here:
. starts at 9:04

I think it's a superior design.
Oh, the same bolt releases the tilter, the L rod, and lets the tilter rotate. That's pretty neat, I agree. I expected three different bolts.

Okay...I've never been a Pearl Fanboy and the tom mount was always a part of my dislike. So, I'll give credit where it's due. After a half century of everyone bitching (cuz I know it wasn't just me), Pearl will finally let you hang a tom without shoving a 1 inch pipe into it. Kudos for catching on.

To sell me, I would need to hear a kit that beats what I am using at every drum.
Using DW toms (pinstripe/clear/power depth), Sakae steel snare, and Ludwig 22x18 kick.
If they made a maple 23x17 kick...that would interest me.

Seriously, Pearl has been an absolutely rock-solid company for decades. One of my gigging kits is a mid 1980s Pearl MLX that I’ve had since college. I use the hardware from this kit with my other kits as well (roughly 50 gigs a year minimum). It’s been to 40 states and overseas. Aside from a few stripped cymbal stand screws (normal for any manufacturer), I’ve never had a breakdown. I’ve had opportunity to play many wonderful manufacturer’s kits over the years. If someone told me that I could have one kit in my dream configuration handed to me right now, I’d be hard-pressed to not pick something by Pearl. Your experience may be different and haters gonna hate, but I think they are among the best of the best.

I toured 20ish nights a month with a reringed masters custom in the late 90s early 2000s and it had some issues. That experience, combined with my hatred of the 7/8" pipe mount, for both aesthetical and functional reasons, kept Pearl rather low on my list of gear, I lusted after or considered, for a long time. I enjoyed their forum and posting there and always appreciated how willing they were as a corporate entity, to allow people like myself, the freedom to discuss my dislike or less than stellar reviews of their products. The folks that ran that board, were incredibly nice and welcoming to everyone. As a result, that made me really consider a kit from them a few years back and so, I ordered one and received one of the best sounding and well put together set of drums I've ever owned. I still dislike the pipe tom mounts, so this development is very welcome to me and those of us who've been complaining for so long hahaha. They do make solid components, great pedals and stands, so I'm confident they've likely made a great new mounting system and L arm. Maybe this will draw a new demographic they've been missing for so long. Time will tell but I appreciate their willingness to finally fix a major hang up for a lot of us
