Percussion Drum Kit

I'm looking to create an entire drum kit using only percussion instruments. What would you recommend for the kit and also the brand?

Well.....

For the snare drum, I would use a snare drum.
For the bass drum, I would use a bass drum.
For the toms, I would use some toms.
For the cymbals, I would use some cymbals.
Maybe for the cowbell you could use a cowbell.

Any brand would do. There are lots out there. Ludwig, Tama, Pearl, DW, Gretch......

Are you referring to world instruments?

You can use a dejembe as a bass drum. you have lots of options for toms, you could use timbales, roto-toms, concert toms, bongos, mini timbales. I would use a regular snare for sure. Cymbals, look for a Zildjian 18 inch Azuka crash, it will work as a ride also, splashes and regular hi-hats, maybe an ozone type crash. As for percussion noise-makers, you have hundreds of choices

I don't recommend using a marimba as a kick drum but you could give it a shot.

Can you elaborate a little more on what you're trying to do? I saw a guy make a kit out of non-percussion stuff like a suitcase for the kick and a metal dustbin for a cowbell. Are you saying make a kit out of non traditional kit drums?

To get ideas for non-traditional approaches to constructing a percussion/drum kit, I encourage you to join the Facebook group called Hybrid Drum Kits. There you will see many examples of players’ kits that do not fit the typical snare-bass-toms-cymbals collection.
