I have an extra 14 inch floor Tom shell. Its 6 ply Ash. Pretty thin. Would a piccolo made from this sound good. What are the characteristics of a good piccolo?

Does it have re-rings? Are you going to use an old edge or cut new ones? How thin? How deep will the snare be? Is it worth selling to buy a piccolo shell?

I've never played a wood piccolo snare drum that I thought was useful. There's simply not enough wood in the shell to add anything sonically to the mix. For wood shell drums, I generally wouldn't go below 4.5 or 5" in depth.

If you want a 3.5" deep drum, go with brass or steel. I know some people here wouldn't agree with me. Just my opinion.
